So I had my surgery last friday.. and it went so so... came home on Sunday night.. .have alot of shoulder pain. Am convinced I pulled a muscle trying to get up out of bed on sunday night. today.is weird..... I dont feel any different. I am sore in some spots. I am starting to have minor cravings.... I also am feeling my stomach growl alot. I am eating only what I have been told is okay.. and what is pureed.. .and low fat.. sugar free... I eat every hour and to 2 hours... and I only am eating 3 to 4 oz of whatever it may be. I am tolerating everything.. well the 3 different soups and the cream of wheat. all else is pure liquid.... I am not getting that FULL feeling yet though. Is that normal? Is my pouch bigger than it should be? Could I have stretched it out already? Or am I just not eating enough to my full capacity yet? I know that most everyone has told me that I will not have any hunger after the surgery.. I am confused. I cant tell if I am hungry or if I am just looking too hard for it. I tried to eat 2 oz of egg beaters... and couldnt finish them.. had to force what I did eat down. that was one of the few times since the surgery that I truly felt full though. Any advice?? I am going to support meeting today. Maybe they can help too.

Hi Joel, I found the first few weeks the most difficult. Your body is adjusting to the new arrangement inside. YOU have to help your head adjust to the changes, too. Even now, 9 months out, I have to remind myself to stop focusing on food when I'm stressed, tired, bored, etc. Eat and do exactly what you were told to do. Drink as much water as you can.... in sips, not gulps. Get your mind off the surgery and your stomach. Exercise, read, whatever... If you just had surgery on Friday and you are planning to go to support group tonight, you are doing GREAT! Any pain? You aren't going to drive yourself, are you? Anne

I am glad to see you are on the losing side. CONGRATS on that. I would be careful about the force feeding though, WHen I had my wls I was on a liquid only diet for the first 2 weeks then went to purred foods. But like I said take it slow if your not hungery I would not force my self to eat you can hurt yourself and I would hate for that to happen to you. I know when I came home everything that came on the TV was about food no matter what channel there were a millon food comercials the new subs from subway I wanted one so bad but when i tired to eat my chicken buillion...LOL I sipped two teaspoons and was full so I stoppeed there. But in my head I still wanted thar damn sub...LOL Even now at almost 8 months out I have days when I can eat two bites and I am full so I dont eat any more right then . But others days I can eat I look at my plate and I cant belive I ate all that I did. I hope I helped some I kinda just rambled there ....LOL

Welcome to losing side. It's normal to be focused on eating with all the new rules, etc. Relax and follow your nutritionists instructions. This is important time to learn those lifelong habits. Also remember your new tummy needs time to heal. I found sip, sip, sip water and early post-op getting as much protein as I could but know you have enough stores for that first two week period. Once on pureed you'll find some foods more filling based on the density of the food. Eat S L O W L Y and chew at least 30 times. Take walks, move around, and relax. Oh, and I was never one of those people who never lost their appetite or felt hungry and still lost to goal and then some to this day. Best wishes on your journey. Lisa

Joel hi, CONGRATULATIONS and welcome to the losing side!!! Don't try to ru**** just take your time. I think we all worried a little right after surgery on how we should feel and if eveything was going the way it should or if the surgery was going to work. You'll do great just take it a day at a time. Sip a lot of water, walk, chew your food very, very well. Sounds like you're going to do just fine. Enjoy your support group they help a lot!!! Best of luck, pat

Congratulations, glad you had your surgery! It sounds like you are doing fine. Liquids are not real filling.. no density and they just run right through so that has something to do wtih how you are feeling. keep sipping though and dont test the new plumbing too hard! LOL Take care, Joyce

Hey Joel! I'm glad to see that the surgery went well and things are going relatively well. Every day is different, ya just have to take each meal as it comes. I know I've eaten certain foods and things were fine and the next time I ate that food, I had the foamies. Ya just never know how it's going to go. The main thing I would suggest is eating slow and not overeating. Your pouch will let you know when you've eaten too much (unfortunately that happens after the fact so ya try not to repeat it next time). Anyway, if you have any other questions, let me know. Take Care, Terry
