Where to get the pre-op psych eval??

My surgeon's office had a small list for the psych evaluation---just as suggested resources--don't have to pick from the list. I am having no luck getting an appointment with any of them. One charges $250 and there appears to be questionable coverage by my insurance. I called my insurance company and they said it depends on the ICD 9 code the psych person uses whether it will get paid or not. MY thought is---if the diagnosis is a major mental disorder---it gets paid---but that would obviously delay surgery. I cannot imagine I fit enough of the criteria for any major mental disorder---so my hunch is I will have to pay out of pocket for the psych eval. Any ideas on how to get it coveredwithout jeopardizing surgery? Or where I can get an appointment in the Baltimore area? Any info is appreciated.

Does your work offer an Employee Assistance Program? Usually they pay for a handful of visits.

Karen - I have Blue Choice (HMO), so I really didn't have any problems with anything; not sure how your insurance company is. I saw Dr. Harvey Gerwanter (SP?) at the Fuller Medical Center located across the street from Franklin Square Hospital on Rossville Boulevard. He was very nice and very quick! I walked out of there with his assurance that they would take care of everything - and they did. Hope this helps. Good luck, Teresa
