Well.. took me two years but i finally called someone. I called Dr.Smoot's office. Chris (thelady i talked to) sent me to a website to do a profile that her and Dr. Smoot will go over. She also told me about two tests I need to have done - sleep apnea (which my Dr. already wanted me to do) and a Cardic consult. I got mail from them this week, for me to write a letter about why i want the surgery and have to send it back. I already know that my brother, best friend, cousin, and aunt will support this. I haven't told my mom yet, she's always been totally against it. I dont know what my dad will say. But i'll wait to tell them.

Congrats! the first call is a HUGE step and it took me over a year and Dr S was the 2nd surgeon I met with ...when I met him and heard his way of doing things i knew beyond a doubt he was the one I wanted to do my surgery. That website Chris gave you has a bulletin board where a lot of us patients of Dr S's post questions and support for each other,it's like our own online support group. If you can schedule your sleep study for the hospital in Havre de Grace go for it. I've had 3 of them done there and go in for my 4th on Oct 5th to see if i even need my CPAP anymore. The tech up there,Mike,is very nice and makes the whole process very easy. I had the surgery 5 months ago tomorrow, I'm down 90lbs and I consider myself a 100% surgical success! All the co morbs i had are gone( will know for sure about sleep apnea soon)....I went from a 54 BMI to a 38 BMI so I no longer even qualify for the surgery...I walked 5 miles yesterday on the tredmill at the gym...I'm loving and LIVING life! Good luck Cathy
