Nervous - Surgery in two days- 9/15
Hey all,
My surgery is finally happening 1st thing Thursday morning.
Im feeling a bit jittery now. i just came off of a 7 day cruise which took my mind off of everything for a while but now Im home and the time is quickly approaching. I had two good friends who have been to Dr. K at Barix so theyve told me a lot. Im just wondering if there is anything odd I may have forgotten to pack? Anything I should know that they may have forgotten to tell me?
*lol* Ive gone over everything a million times in my head but Im trying to be more prepared than nervous. My anxiety is starting to get the best of me
Tara,
I felt just like you are now. I almost jumped off the table in the OR I became so panicked! You really are not going to need a whole lot in the hospital. I found I was most comfortable in the hospital gown. The first few days all you are going to want to do is sleep anyway. The one thing I would recommend taking is a small travel pillow. I found that I could not get comfortable in the hospital bed or a chair. My mother (who used to be an ICU nurse) brought me a very small "bean bag" type travel pillow and put it behind my head. It was "perfection"! I bought one a little larger when I got home so I could sleep on my side-the first few days you are so "gassy" that sleepong on your side is impossible. The second thing I would recommend is Chapstick (unflavored). I found that every smell bothered me after surgery (and still does; but it will get better) so I didn't want any scented lotions or even flowers in my room!
Good luck and let us know how your doing!

Hi Tara
I know you are worried but just think about all the good things that will change in your life. You'll be able to do more and not get winded and you'll be able to do things you never thought possible. Here's a tip if you have an anxiety attack before surgery (like waitng to wheeled in to the or)They might cancal the surgery. This happen to my friend Denise.Stay calm and put on your bravest face and when you wake up you'll be on a great and wonderful journey.I will be prsying for you Tara and i'll see you on the other side..................................steve
Tara:
I'm not familiar with the way that Barix does things, but I found that I needed very little immediately after surgery. The best thing I can recommend is that you get a large insulated container to put your beverage in - you'll need to sip, sip, sip constantly to keep from getting dehydrated and weak. My daughter just went through this (I did it three years ago), and she just wanted to sleep the first couple of days.
You've made the decision - now it's time to let a sense of calm fall over you. I'll be thinking about you, and praying for a safe and speedy recovery.
