Surgery canceled today. Now what?

I was supposed to have my surgery today, and arrived at Sinai at 5:50 a.m. to be told all Dr. Gandsas' surgeries were canceled. At first I thought they had to be kidding, but given my luck, no - it was true. They claimed that someone had tried to reach me and told me to call his office. I had spent the night at my daughter's because she was taking me to the hospital, but I had my cell phone with me, and no one called it, and no one called my daughter's number, which is my emergency contact number. If this wasn't an emergency, I don't know what is! She is 8+ months pregnant and has a 2 year old, so she was unable to catch up on the sleep she missed by getting up with me at 5:00 a.m. Anyway, I figured they had called my home and left a message there. But when I got home, I discovered that no one had even tried to call me at all. They just let me show up and be told to go home! There was no message, and nothing showed on my caller id that could have been an attempt to call me. I think the world of Dr. Gandsas and his staff, and I certainly understand if the man was sick, he was sick, but the courtesy of a phone call from someone would have been nice. Now I have to wait to be rescheduled. I have no idea when my new surgery date will be, because Karen said they have to wait until Dr. Gandsas returns to find that out. It seems to me that the other person scheduled today and I were next on the agenda, so we should be moved to the next surgery date. But I know that won't be the way it will be. They will leave everyone as scheduled and see when they can fit us in. It doesn't seem fair.

Bmore Granny, I know you are upset, I would be. No it does not seem fair and maybe when Dr Gandsas is feeling better he will make sure you get another day ASAP. You do the same thing I do when someone says..... I tried to call... Look at that caller ID .. it does not lie. Keep everyone posted on your new surgery date and hang in there. Denise

Oh Bmore Granny- I am so sorry your surgery was cancelled. What a disappointment, letdown and to have to go through all the bowel cleansing stuff again will be hateful. I had surgery last week at Sinai with Dr. Li and everything went smoothly so it can happen. Keep your chin up and they owe you one!! Sara
