On August 17th (my 59th B-Day) I'm driving to Denver with my two labs to train for three weeks in my new career as an Animal Behavior Therapist with BARKBUSTERS. (See.http://barkbusters.com/) It will probably take me 4 days each way to drive. I will take a small cooler with cottage cheese, cheese, protein bars, yogurt, etc. --all things I can stop and eat along the way. I'm getting a little tired of these because that is what I've been eating all summer while I travelled 3000 miles for my temp job with the State. My concern is getting enough protein without getting too little fiber. Two questions: 1. Any other suggestions for easy sources of high protein and fiber that are convenient to travel? 2. Any suggestions for high protein, lowfat foods at drive thru-s? With my two black labs in the car and this heat, I can't leave them in the car. I will take my Designer Whey protein, but that is somewhat inconvenient, too. Please HELP!

How about jerky ? It's chewy, but good source of protein. Good luck !!! Hugs, Mo

Also, for a drive thru if you go to Burger King you can order their package of grilled chicken or grilled shrimp for $ 1.50. You do not need to buy the salad. It comes in a 3 oz hot bag. It's really great. At Taco Bell you can get pintos and cheese for $1.00. It's nice to have a change of pace as your traveling. Denise

When I travel both biz and pleasure I use Protein Bars. I found a Doctor's Carbrite which is low-fat under 4g, no sugar, low carb, 20g protein, and best of all I like it. I refrigerate them and freeze them then keep them in my cooler pack. You can find them at the Vitamin Shoppe. I like the Chocolate Brownie. Peanut butter is good. There is a nature's promise brand at Giant that has no sugar and 180 cal serving. Trader Joes brand used to be my brand of choice but they've just changed it and it has more calories so I found the other and it's organic. I use 1T. on an apple or banana. I also use V8 if I can't get my veggie's in. Best wishes. Lisa

Anne, Hi. When I responded earlier I didn't realize that it was you I was responding too. I am thrilled to hear that you are doing new and exciting things in your life. I wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday, and wish you safe traveling to Denver. My friend just got back from going to school out there last Tuesday. Do you do Tuna Fi**** is another item that you can pack and eat on the road, You can also pick up cheese cubes and sliced luncheon meat to carry with you. Have a safe trip and an enjoyable one.
