I just got home today from St Agnes from having surgery. Let me tell you what....woah! This is the worst feeling ever. Let me first off by saying that I was competly twisted inside. My colon and appendix were on my left side when they should be on your right. so they took out my appendix cause i don't really need it anyway. The colon is fine where its at because it never really did anything wrong anyway. But all in all the surgery still was a go. I was on hte table for 3 hours and i have 9 incisions...including where the JP drain was. If everything is spelled wrong or sounds mean, i'm still a little doped up. I don't really regret the surgery but the pain is just so unbearable at times. So to those who haven't had it yet, nothing can prepare you for the pain. But I do have to say, I can't wait to be the "loser" now! Thank you to all who sent me wishes and prayers, they realy do help. Makes you realize there are other people who care besides friends and family. Good luck to others who are about to go under and best wishes to everyone!

Hi Angie The first few days are the worse,it will get better.I remember the pain but it is the price we must pay.I had more pain from sleeping on my back than from the surgery itself.I am so happy that I did this for me.Hope you feel better soon......steve c

Angie, Just remember one of the biggest keys to relieving the pain is walking. Even if it's just to the mailbox a few times, alot of the pain is gas that needs to be moved around so that it gets out of your system. The more you walk the better you will feel. Congrats on being on this side. Hopefully I will see you at group on August 3rd. Denise

Hi Anige, first congrats on your arrival to post-op.... On the pain...I will second the walking suggestion...keep it moving...btw, I had open and the pain was not that bad...at least compared to my shoulder surgery the year before.... In fact, I was in the hospital for 4 days with WLS...after arriving home, I took 1 pain killer, for because of the fear of pain...never took another one... each day will get better....on my 5th day, I was up, showered, my husband drove me to walmart and the grocery store...I walked around....obviously NOT running any marathons, but hey I was up and dressed... also, moving around helps you adjust to all the changes....the surgery can bring on mental anguish....nothing too horrible, but a lot of folks have discussed it... Do you find yourself drawn to the food network? I love getting an answer to this question...after my surgery, I wasn't hungry, and had NO cravings for food...but boy did I enjoy watching the food network... best wishes...I promise it will get better each and every day..... RAE
