Hey everybody! Well, I'm six weeks post-op and down 34 pounds!! I feel great. No more hearburn!! I feel completely normal except that I eat way less and I get nauseated like a pregnant woman around strong smells. I'm so happy to be down TWO sizes and I FINALLY got into those jeans that I bought 2 months before surgery! I'm so happy to have had this surgery. Just wanted to share my experience with you. I hope everyone else is doing well. ((hugs)) Pam

Thanks! Congrats on being post-op!! Isn't that funny how we lost the interest in eating? So opposite of before surgery! I'm still struggling with getting ALL the protein in. Some days I tolerate the protein shakes just fine...some days I can only tolerate the Carb Countdown Chocolate Milk. Sometimes the thickness of the shakes pushes the nausea to extremes. I haven't thrown up yet though..(knocks on wood). I am eating soft foods now....which really includes a lot of "regular" foods. The most I have ever eaten was a 1/2 cup and I was miserable after that. I have figured out a couple of signals that my body gives me when I'm approaching that full mark: hiccups and runny nose....if I get those, I need to STOP! Whenever I eat, I usually eat meat (seafood, chicken, salisbury steak, meatballs or meatloaf - must be moist!) and maybe a little taste of mashed potato or mashed cooked veggie. The exception to that is breakfast. I just CAN'T do any of that stuff that early in the morning...GAG! So I carry a little ziplock baggie of plain cheerios with me in the morning and eat those. Just always remember that whatever goes in...has to be a mush that goes out the new opening in your pouch. I tried some clam chowder yesterday. It was SOOOO good. It was one of those times where I wish I could have eaten more. BUT I discovered that clams are not something to try this early out. I ended up with a piece of clam in my mouth and chewed and chewed and chewed and chewed and chewed.... it never broke apart. It was like GUM. So I spit it in my napkin and stuck to the broth. I hate to think what would have happened if I had swallowed that thing! Wishing you much success and joy.... Pam

Thanks for such explicit information. I've been reading the boards for months ...and have finally made the decision to have the surgery this fall....so your experiences have great meaning. Thanks, Jody

Hey Jody! Congrats on your decision! A really good place to look is on the post-op boards..... like May 2005, June 2005, July 2005...whatever month.... then you can see how "fresh post-ops" are dealing...what the fears are...what the trials are...what the joys are.... I still look at the months ahead of me to see how people further along are doing. I can honestly tell you that I feel alive again. It's amazing how much easier it is to move with every pound lost and how great it is to be off that sugar roller coaster. I wish you much success! Pam

Hi Pam, Sounds like you are doing great! I will be 4 weeks out next Monday and am down 29 lbs. as of 7/12. I am finding it difficult to get in all the protein too. I have been lucky - no nausea and little pain. Keep up the good work! Cheryl

You know it is funny you mention the smell thing. My husband thinks I am nuts but my sense of smell is ultra-sensitive. It was a bit sensitive before surgery but now I am even worse. Congrats - 34lbs in 6 weeks is just fantastic!
