Only 10 lapbands done at St Agnes.....
Hi Denise,
I am considering Lap banding surgery. I would like to lose wight but I am a nurse and fear the complications and the effects of the surgery long-term. Were you satified with the Dr.s at St Agnes? Did you also look into doctors at any other facilities? I have done some research on Hopkins physicians. Did your insurance cover the lap banding? Anxious to hear from you! Ann
Hi Ann,
I did not consider the lap band at all. I did research a lot of physicians. Dr. Schweiter and Dr. Averback were both covered by my insurance. When I called to get an appointment with Schweiter's office they did not return my call for 4 months. I got a call back from Dr. Averbach and Singhs office within 2 days. I know surgeon offices are busy but that made my decision which doctor to go with. I choose an RNY because I needed to make sure that I couldn't cheat myself out of surgery. I had the 6 month physician supervised diet to follow and in the course of those months truly prepared myself for my life changing choice. The lap band was not a consideration because I needed to change what I was going to be allowed to put into my mouth and sweets were too often convienent for me. I would make the same choice today. My recovery was fantastic, I was back at the gym working out within 2 weeks of surgery and I feel Great. Everyone thinks their physician was great, but I can honestly say Dr. Averback came to see me both days I was in the hospital. I had my surgery on Good Friday and was discharged on Easter and he still came in. The office staff at their office is the best I have ever come across in all 15 years that I have worked in the health care field. I will definitely answer any questions that you have and you can email me directly at [email protected] Once again good luck on your journey.
