Used Clothing Stores
I'm new here so this may be discussed elsewhere. Where are good stores to buy used clothing as we lose weight? I'm only a week out from surgery so don't need them yet... but I like to plan ahead. I've only been in Maryland for a couple of years and the places I've found don't have much in larger sizes. I know I won't always need larger sizes, but I'll go through several before this is over. I don't mind driving if it's worth the trip.
There is a good sized Salvation Army Thrift store in Severna Park (on Ritchie Hwy), there are also Goodwill Stores in both Annapolis (on West Street) and Glen Burnie (Veterans Hwy, right off I-97). I have had some success also at Partners In Care on Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. PIC is an upscale boutique-y place but has funky hours. They are open I from 10 a.m to 4 most days, but until 7 p.m. on Thursday and Fridays.
Good luck !! and congratulations on your surgery!!!!
There is a Rugged Wearhouse in Bowie and one in Glen Burnie. They don't sell used clothes. From what I can tell, they sell clothes that don't pass inspection and overstock. I have gotten lots of name brand and other stuff there MEGA CHEAP. I have yet to find any major flaws in anything I've purchased. Maybe a slightly imperfect stitch or something. I got a pair of good Etonic sneakers there for $9.99. (Ok.. I bought 3 pairs!) I've gotten t-shirts for like $2.
Also, the womens' section at Wal-Mart has decent stuff and it's very reasonably priced. When I first looked there, I was surprised at the size of the large size section. I'm a big fan of the JustMySize brand. Most of that stuff is $12 and under. I also love the White Stag jeans with the elastic waist band. They look like regular jeans in every other way, and because of the waistband one size will actually hang with you for 2 or 3 sizes.
I don't post on here much, but I saw your post and just had to respond. I am a thrift store addict. I go to 2 big thrift stores over near Andrews which are really good. I also go to Goodwill in Annapolis and Salvation Army in Waldorf. There are 2 smaller stores near me - HELP Association in Chesapeake Beach and Catholic Charities in Prince Frederick. They are a lot smaller, but very cheap. There are also 3 big thrift stores in Laurel that I go to. Just e-mail me if you want more information...or even a shopping buddy.

Hi Teresa and welcome to Bowie!
I know of a couple thrift stores out in Laurel...one on Rt 198 at Rt 197 - this store also has 50% off on Sundays. If you get on 197 in Bowie and follow this out to Laurel you'll run right into 198 at a traffic light, turn right onto 198 and then left at the first traffic light. The second one is on Rt 1 in Laurel right by the PG County/Howard County Line. The latter one has a fair selection of larger sizes but as you said in your post there aren't a lot of larger women's sizes in any of the thrift stores I know either. I get some terrific deals on clothes for my two boys! If you need better directions (with land marks) just e-mail me. Happy shopping and continued success on you weight loss journey!
Take care,
Sue
There's a store called Steve & Barrys (www.steveandbarrys.com) - they have stores in Westminster and Baltimore. I found them when I was in Dallas and am thrilled they have stores in Maryland. Everything (for the most part) is $10.98 or less. My husband usually wears a 3X, but comfortably fits in a 2X from there. Womens sizes don't run above a 16 or 18 I think, but once you're down to those sizes and still losing it's a great place. A lot of Old Navy-ish style clothes but wayyy less expensive. Sometimes you can grab stuff for $2.98 on clearance (don't know what's up with the 98 cents on everything).
It's also great for everyone with kids. My teenagers like their stuff so think we'll definately be doing some back to school shopping there. Yahoo!!
If you feel like taking a road trip, you can also check out the C Mart store in Joppatown:

My wife and I have been before, and they tend to have a pretty diverse selection. Depending on what they've managed to acquire recently, you can sometimes score knockout deals on really good clothing; their website will generally list what's new at the store.
