Problems with eating

Has anyone had any problems with swallowing while eating. I am 6 weeks post and am having awful pressure under my left breast when I eat. Also sometimes things just get hung up in my throat and won't go down, even liquids. My doctor said that sometimes people need to have their esophagitis stretched after surgery. Anyone had that done to them? I was also reading on gastricbypassfamily.com about esophagitis and stricture. It sounds like what is happening to me. I am going to call the doctor on Tuesday but until then I will have to live on liquids. I thought that once I had my gastric surgery everything would be okay, but I guess not. Pat

Hi Pat, I am 15 1/2 months out and have had a recurring stricture issue. I was dilated (stretched) 3 times between the end of September and early December. It's not a big deal to have the dilation. I still have some problems, but they are minor in comparison to the problems I would have had I not had the surgery at all. Your doctor is the one to talk to about the problems you are having. He can determine if you need to be dilated, or if he might need to do a revision to fix it. Hugs, Mo

Hi there...at my 6 mos. check up I mentioned having a problem with vomitting where it felt like the food just wouldn't go down...I never experienced the "full pouch" feeling like a lot of people had because my food never got that far! Anyway, at my 6 mos check up my doc asked me to have an EGD (Dr. Okolo did the procedure, awesome doc at Sinai in Baltimore City)...he ended up telling me that I had a stricture and stretched my esophagus...problem solved...food goes down now...I have noticed however that I've had a little more reflux since this procedure but it feels better than the constant need to vomit up food that sat in my esophagus unable to pass. He also told me I had a hiatal hernia...that will cause acid to irritate your esophagus...put me on meds for that and it seems to be helping too. Call the doc and talk to him...and remember WLS doesn't "cure" everything...but it sure does increase your longevity by getting the weight off...say some prayers. I'll be thinking of you. Jennifer
