Hello everyone...well I have had my surgery ( open rny) and am now on the mend. It's been really hard, the first few days home from the hospital. What can you suggest as liquid nourishments during this beginning stage of my eating. I'm getting my protein in. Has anyone else experienced the tightness. and swelling of their abdomin around their staples? At times I feel I cant get food and sleep is short and very uncomfortable. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

For liquid nourishment, it's hard to beat a soothing broth (chicken, beef, or veggie). You can whisk in an unflavored protein powder to bring your numbers up, too. Experiment with some different seasonings to keep the broth from getting too boring - a little oregano and sage goes wonderfully with chicken broth! I've found that drinking broth or tea first thing in the morning relaxed my pouch and made it more cooperative for the rest of the day. I still like to start the day with herbal tea, and still have some chicken broth as a snack. Are you allowed yogurt? Buy plain yogurt and add sugar-free syrups for flavor (I like DaVinci peach syrup for this). Tylenol PM really helps at night!

Thanks P Kitty.. i've tried adding spices and it does help. I also have ordered some unflavored protien powder for my soups. Again thanks for your suggestions. Etta
