Okay, this may seem like a strange title..LOL. I'm 6 days post-op. I had a laparoscopic RNY. I am feeling pains in my left shoulder. Is this normal? A friend of mine said she heard somewhere that this is normal for people who have laparascopic procedures, but I haven't been able to verify that. Could any of you post-op patients let me know if what I'm experiencing is normal? Thanks! Susi

Hi there...I had some shoulder pain but it wasn't 6 days post op it was just one or two days. My pain was from the position they put me in for the surgery and I was told that some discomfort (i.e. pain!) was normal...you may want to double check with your surgeon's office also. Blessings to you on the road to recovery and a better healthy lifestyle. Jennifer

I was an operating room nurse for for 17 years and although I have not had a a laporoscopy as of yet, I do know that shoulder pain is very common due to the gases they use to fill your abdomen. I am not sure at 6 days post op this is the issue but you should give your surgeon's office a call. It could also be from the positiong of your arm during surgery. I'm sure your surgeon will have the answer. Good luck!!!

Hey Susi - Didn't happen to me but I hear it is normal with Lap procedures and is due to the gas from surgery or it could be positioning. If it doesn't go away in another week you might want to mention it to Kligman just for peace of mind.
