Jennifer,
You've asked a very interesting question. I don't know the answer, or whether one exists. However, I can tell you that size of the liver is one factor. Its size is increased simply by being the repository of additional fat being stored for future energy. Reduce weight, and you reduce your stores of fat.
However, in the pre-op visits with Dr. Greene, he also is feeling the area where the liver sits to understand how soft and flexible it is becoming with your pre-operative weight loss. As that starter weight is lost, and the stored fat is burned, the liver becomes softer and more pliable. That ultimately makes it more flexible for Dr. Greene to get in and behind it with the instruments used for undertaking the WLS laparascopically.
Your big day is approaching fast. Best of luck to you. Hope to see you at the next support group meeting on July 11.

Jennifer,
Thank you for your very kind words. Apart from the pearls of wisdom we all gain from this, and our local Rouxny Yahoo chat group, I've had a wonderful mentor in Dr. Greene!
Again, best regards for your upcoming journey.
Leesa
I don't know much about the sizes of organs except that I just recently saw an episode of Oprah where they showed actual livers, kidneys, hearts, etc. of people with diseased or overweight organs vs. normal (I assume the ones with normal organs died of something else - these were actual organs sitting on a table!!) It was pretty scary to see the size and general unhealthy look of an obese person's liver and heart! That's one contributing factor in why I'm going to have this surgery if I get approved!
