Hi everyone, I've been really struggling lately with increased appetite and my doc believes it might be the result of side affects from one of my meds. Is there anything out there that doesn't cause hunger cravings? I am having one heck of a time staying on track. Thanks! -BJ 300/175/150

Not sure if Wellbutrin is meant to help anxiety. It's an anti-depressant, but I got on it specifically for the fact that it is supposed to curb the appetite... and it does a damn good job of that for me for many months. Eventually, I build up a tolerance to it and have to stop for awhile before it will work for that purpose again. Never stop suddenly... always ween. My doctor suggested I use it seasonally since I tend to eat more during certain seasons, but hopefully I won't need to do it at all for a good long time after WLS. As for anxiety... it's not valium or Xanax. In fact, I imagine it is more like speed... so I'm not sure what it would do for anxiety. Might be worth looking into. Go to wellbutrin dot com if interested.

(Have you tried going off anti-anxiety meds since WLS? I'm pre-op and have no idea if there's a chance that your brain chems might level out. I do know that when I totally kick sugar and eat right that this affects my moods in a very positive way. The ole serotonin seems to be back in order.)

I was on Wellbutrin for depression for awhile and it didn't suppress my appetite one bit. It also didn't help my depression. My son was on it for two days for anxiety, and he had side-effects that put him in the emergency room - heart racing and feeling like he was dying!! I know some people have used it to quit smoking with success. Just be careful!! And Vicky is definitely correct that you can't go off it cold turkey - you have to ween.

ativan.. non addictive, short lasting in your system and fast acting on anxiety. You should take it as a PRN for that as long as that is your only issue.
