hello everyone. i'm so sad, hurt, angry, etc. etc. etc. i'm sched'd for the ds on the 20th of this month. after 2 appeals, 5 months of back and forth, i'm ready to go and today my hubby comes home and says he was "fired". something that was "AVOIDABLE". now I'm not sure whether my insur cover AUTOMATICALLY continues for a minimum of 30 days. i know by law they must offer something called COBRA coverage (very very high) within 60 days, but what happens in between is what i'm concerned about. anyone had an experience like this. it seems like this mountain is growing as i'm climbing it or it's turning into a roller coaster. of course i'll be on the phone in the morning to get the 411. and right now i'm not feeling very talkative with him. i need prayers and encouragement, becz i'm really feeling low.

If it was avoidable, I'd threaten to sue the company unless they make over with enough severence to see your surgery through.

Diana --I have a similiar situation to yours. I lost my job and now have the expensive COBRA. Your current insurance will be effective for 2 weeks after the termination date. Then, (assuming you make your COBRA payment on time) the COBRA will kick in after the last date of standard coverage. The coverage is the same but you just have a much higher premium. For example: I lost my job on May 13th. My standard insurance was good from my last day of wor****il May 31st. As of June 1st, the COBRA kicks in. They are giving me until the 14th of June to pay for it. Any tests or procedures done between June 1 and June 14th will be listed as pending for payment. Then once they receive payment , the coverage will be retroactive to June 1st. So there is no break in coverage as long as you make payment. Be warned-- my premium is 600 bucks!! I only hope yours is much less. Very difficult to pay when you are not working. Melanie
