A scale??
I'm just over two weeks away from my surgery, and I'm trying to decide whether I should purchase a scale.
I don't own one now because I didn't want it ruling my life. I wanted to focus on how my body felt vs. how much I weighed. But I've been thinking that it will be important to keep track of weight loss during my post-operative journey to ensure I am on track.
I'm interested in hearing what others think about how much one should use a scale after surgery. I'm also wondering if people have recommendations for a good one to by.
Thanks.

Susi:
I would put off buying a scale right now. It drove me crazy in the first 2 months. It wasn't working properly, but I didn't know that. I actually think it's better to focus on getting your protein, water, exercise, etc. This way you won't be tempted to compare your loss with others.
I am still using the crazy scale, but I only get on it every 2 weeks or so, and sometimes I forget. I use the doctor's scale as my official weigh ins....
I would not buy a scale. It's just too tempting to jump on it every
day... several times a day.
I do recommend a weekly weigh in though. I go to a TOPS meeting
each week. TOPS is a non-profit support group that is generally
friendly to WLS. Each chapter is different, but you could call and
check on the local chapter before you attend. Feel free to email
me privately for more information about the organization.
TOPS is Take Off Pounds Sensibly, here is the link to chapters
near the 20901 zipcode.

Hi Susi.
This is a personal decision for you. I personally liked having my scale around. For me when I first had surgery I weighed myself weekly, it was great seeing the LBS drop so quickly - which was very rewarding for your self discipline in your change of eating habits. Once I was about 2 months out I started weighing bi-weekly and I found myself staying off of the OH site so much because I was comparing my loss to thoose who had surgery around the same time as myself and that was more depressing then the scale. Now that I am 11 months out, and very very very happy that I had surgery being at a loss of 125 LBS I weigh about once a month. Now I find it more rewarding that I am losing inches and not just LBS! The scale will become an obcession, that is natural! You will feel great seeing and feeling the difference. One thing in mind, just as this surgery was you will need to do what makes you happy becasue in the end that is what it is all about!
Good luck with your surgery.
