Hello Everyone.
I am soon about to embark on my 6 month pre-op journey. I have been checking out two surgeons. Now before I go visit them I just wanted to hear some opinions.
The doctors are Dr. Terrance Fullum (Howard) and Dr. Chrstina Li (Sinai).
Have any of you had (or plan to have) surgery with them? What was your experience? Rating 1-10 (1 being the lowest) etc.
If it helps any I live in Bowie MD and have CareFirst BCBS :-)

Hi Dominique,
I have CIGNA so I'm having my surgery at Innova Fair Oaks. I live in Silver Spring but work in Arlington so it's not too bad.
I know that Dr. Fullum was my fathers surgeon about 15 years ago (for gallbladder surgery). My father really respected him. I can't speak to his work with weight loss surgery though. I've just started my 6 month pre-op journey too! I'm going to do my best to be patient and stick to it!
Good luck!!

Congratulations on beginning a wonderful journey! I went thru Sinai's program w/a different Dr, but I've followed up with Dr. Li and she is AWESOME! The program at Sinai is really great and I've done so well. They are always available for questions and concerns. Good luck with whatever decision you make! It was the best decision I've ever made in my life.

Hi Dominique.
I went to a seminar @ Howard, and met Dr Fullum. I was very pleased with him. Don't really know to much about the staff, but they appeared to be very informative and helpful. One of his staff members had the gastric bypass years ago. I went to seminars @ Virginia Hosp Ctr, Providence Hospital does a seminar @ St Joseph's Catholic Church in Largo, MD, Univ of MD-Baltimore-Dr. Kligman, and his office does a free 6 month free nutrition program if you go there. I went to a seminar that Dr. LoMenzo had in Greenbelt, he works with Dr. Kligman. I was not overly impressed with him, because I think his surgery of choice is the gastric bypass, and I am interested in the VSG. Well I decided to go with Dr Mark Rickford who works at Providence and was trained by Dr Fullum, they at one time worked together, until Dr Fullum went to Howard. I am not on the best terms with some of the office staff, but overall he really impressed me at the seminar. I am hoping to have the VSG later in the year. Keep me posted and let me know your decision. Peace & Blessings to you.

Hi,
I had my surgery two years ago with Dr. Fullum at Howard University Hospital. Dr. Fullum and his staff are GREAT!! They are very knowledgeable, concerned and gracious.
I have fallen of track not through any fault of theirs, but due to other family members health issues and I am their sole caregiver.
Go to one of their seminars which are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month. They are very informative. Good luck on your journey.

I had surgery with Dr Long who works with Dr Li at Sinai. Their staff were great on getting approval (BCBS) and well structured. The hospital was fine, if a bit old - my only other hospital experience had been at Shady Grove Adventist which has newer rooms. My only complaint is that I don't agree with their nutritionist's plan so I'll be seeing my own closer to home.
