Oh, crap!

 Letter in tonight's mail:

Dear Eva, Thank you for choosing St. Agnes Healthcare for your healthcare needs. This hospital requires payment in full of hospital libilities (sic), including copay, deductible and self pay balances prior to surgery....According to your benefits, the estmated amount owed is...

And a figure approximately 10 times what I was quoted when I first started out. My son hopefully says that maybe they made a mistake, and I'm hoping he's right. But if I had a spare $3131.00, I'd be out house-hunting. 

It was a nice dream to have. Maybe, someday, after my son is out of college....

Give them a call and see what's up.  Also, contact your insurance carrier to determine your co-pay for surgery.

Well, it turns out they don't read any better than they spell. That's the figure for Out Of Network, but I am In Network. According to my insurance company, I don't owe a cent, not even a co-pay (!). I've left 3 messages for the guy who sent the letter, and he hasn't called back but the doctor's surgery scheduler talked to him and cleared things up.

So happy I don't have to give up this dream!

Dr. Averbach did my surgery and one of the reasons I really love his practice is that their insurance people are REALLY on the ball!:) Good luck with your surgery:)!!
