U of M bariatric
I know I have done a post praising Noel Stevens at Dr. Kligman's bariatric group at University of Maryland. I just have to say it again...with even more enthusiasm though.
This last week I was scheduled for surgery to on my pelvis. My large intestine has prolapsed and my entire pelvis needed to be repaired. Initially, I was going to have my regular GYN perform the surgery, but at the last possible minute (literally) they cancelled my surgery stating the assistant surgeon had an emergency and my gyn would not do the surgery without him. There is a whole turn of events involved in this, including a ton of miscommunication and disrespect to me as a patient to the point where I ended up firing my gyn and completely cancelling the surgery with him.
During this whole fiasco, I had been in touch with Noel. As soon as she learned of my situation, she (and Dr. Kligman both) stepped up and jumped in feet first to get me some help as soon as possible. Both understood how urgent my situation is and spent the entire afternoon last Thursday searching and consulting with specialists at U of M to find the right one that was needed for my complicated surgery. Noel found the right doctor for me and even set up an urgent appointment with the doctor so I can get my surgery scheduled up there.
I was told that it was a surprise that it was even being done at a local hospital, this type of complicated surgery should be done at the University. I look back upon it now and feel the cancellation was a blessing in disguise. I believe it was cancelled initially for a reason that had nothing to do with any emergency. I think a higher power stepped in because I may have been in grave danger.
Anyway, about a year or so ago, I was told that once you become a patient of Dr. Kligman's, you are his patient for life. And he sticks to his word. I cannot say enough good about him and his staff...specifically Noel Stevens who went way above and beyond for me and has been there for me through everything...no matter what it is.
She truly is a good soul and cares very much for her patients. I trust her completely.
So if you're ever considering WLS...plz consider U of M bariatric program with Dr. Kligman and Noel. They truly will take the very best care of you for the rest of your life!!

Here, Here!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. Noel is my lifeline and she is THE best medical professional I have ever come in contact with. Choosing this program and subsequently, choosing them has been the greatest decision on my life.
I'm glad you posted your story. Good for you and I'm happy to hear you are in good hands and taking an in-depth interest in your own medical care. I think the good fortune in all of this is that we have them on our side. The rest is not luck...it's superior medical care. Thanks for posting! You should forward this link to Noel. She deserves the credit for sure!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

So I saw the urosurgeon and she said I never needed the surgery in the first place.
She feels it is something with my colon/large intestine and has referred me to Hopkins to see a GI motility specialist.
Trying to get ahold of them is nearly impossible though! I called and left messages for 5 days straight and no return call. I finally called the patient advocate and asked them to step in. So I FINALLY get a call back from the secretary who says she cannot make an appointment until they know what is wrong with me or until I have a diagnosis. WHAT???? Ummmm....that's why I'm calling because no one knows what the hell is wrong and want to see if this doctor can figure it out. I got so frustrated I finally told the woman that I am going to call the urosurgeon at University and have her contact the doctor directly and make arrangements for me to be seen. Which I did just that...now I'm waiting to hear from them again with hopefully a very soon appointment.
If this doesn't work...I will, once again, ask Noel for some help. At least I know I can count on her no matter what!!!
