Day 3 of 5 Day Pouch Test

Hey all - I'll try to keep this quick because it's probably getting a little confusing with so many of us doing the 5DPT and posting about it. :)

To put it as dramatically as possible, I will say that Day 3 was an oasis in the the desert. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but any of you who've done a liquid diet know that it's tough. No matter what liquids you can have, or how long you have to do it, it's still not food. So there's physical urge and there's mental urge battling your will and that's tough. So needless to say, it was nice to have soft food again.

Today I had an omelet  for breakfast (1 egg, a little bit of egg beaters and two tablespoons of 2% shredded cheddar). It was delicious and soooooo anticipated. I wasn't really hungry this morning, so that shows that the liquid diet was doing it's work with my pouch on days 1 and 2. I did however have breakfast just as I was starting to get hungry. I felt the restriction and didn't eat the whole thing. For lunch I had a seasoned tuna packet (about 3 oz), later a protein shake and then for dinner we made the tilapia recipe from the 5DPT website. It was good! I felt like it was missing a little pizazz and that maybe some salsa or diced tomatoes with it would have given it some kick, but I stuck with it the way it was for the purposes of the experiment. I don't think there would have been anything wrong with a little non-fat or very low fat sauce of some sort, but I didn't want to dilute the results for my own reasons.

I am very glad that I am doing this. I feel back on track and since I have put the effort in, I don't want to mess it up. I feel that the terrible carb cravings are at bay (at least manageable) and I'm craving healthy food ---lean and green. I can't wait for chicken and broccoli. How weird is that?

Struggles: head hunger, desire to graze (having to fight it still), desire to have my food be moist and go down smoothly (aka sliders) and the biggest one...fighting the urge to take a sip of a drink after eating. That has just never gotten any easier for me!!!! It's so difficult. It's only going to get harder as my protein gets denser, but I just have to suck it up and deal if I want long term success. Grrr...

Best of luck to any of you who are doing this diet (and even those who are not). Thank you so much for your support on this!

Day 3 for me in the morning wasn't bad, wasn't hungry which was a good thing. Had protein shake for breakfast, and didn't get my egg in until lunch time, but it was yummy and like Laura I didn't really want all of it. I too struggle with the drinking while eating and waiting for half hour after I ate, but this experiment did make me take notice of why we do it. Your food definately stays with you when you don't eat and drink. Today I did have trouble getting my fluids in but I did accompli**** I too did the tilapia recipe from the web site and it was good but like Laura said it was missing some zip. I wish I would of added more old bay to it, maybe on top before I put the cheese on.

While the morning was fine, by about 3pm the head hunger, food cravings and television adds kicked in and I was dying for real food!! To the point where I saw one comercial on TV where I thought a bar of soap looked like a piece of cake. My evening was absolutely miserable with the desire to eat something else. I wasn't hungry it was those dang food cravings. I didn't give it, I am determine that I can and need to make this work for 5 days, I can be that strong.

Christy,

I can relate with how you are feeling. I felt that way last week. I had to laugh when you said that the bar of soap looked like cake.  Too funny, but not so funny when we are going through that. I am very proud of you for sticking to the plan!!  Great job!! As for me doing the 5DPT for the second time has definitely helped me with those cravings and head hunger.  I suggest you do one more week to help you with that.  Remember that the diet says you can eat as much of protein as you want.

You are strong and you will make it!

Hi Laura,

I am so glad that you are doing great on the 5DPT. Our tool truly does work all we have to do it work it for the rest of our lives.

As for the fish I put less Old Bay seasoning because I have noticed that since I have been staying away from sodium with he diet my taste buds are more sensitive and most things tastes salty to me.  I had a wonderful tasty omelet and I added shredded cheddar cheese and 1 slice of tomatoe diced.  It was heavenly. But I could not fini**** all as well.

I also got the urge to much on things (slider foods) but not as bad as two weeks ago.  I just cut up some lettuce and added some chicken salad that I had made.  Remember that it says you can eat as much protein as you want.

As for the the drinking yes it does get harder but remember to chew really good. You will get full really quickly tho. As soon as you feel restriction stop eating.  That will help with waiting to drink 30 minutes later.

Yesterday was a great day for me.  I enjoyed Tilapia, chicken salad on a bed of lettuce,I had 1 protein drink and I had 2 oz of sharp cheddar cheese throughout the day.  I felt like I was forcing myself to eat because I was not hungry at all. Doing this diet the second week has definitely felt really good and has helped me with the mental hunger.  Yay!! I will not do the 5 day pouch next week again bu, I will follow the 30 minute rule, I will stay away from slider foods and eat healthy. If I feel like I am falling back I will start it back up. I just need two more pounds to lose which will probably take me a while to lose since it is no****er weight.  lol I will work out those two pounds even if it means working out 3 times a day 5days a week.  lol

Best of luck Laura you are doing great and I am super proud of you.

Have a fantastic day all!

That is such a nice message, Cira, thank you! It's so nice having the support to do it together. I have noticed that I'm not hungry, which in and of itself is weird. I love the renewed sense of control too. I have not lost anything else (weighed this morning and was the same as yesterday) but that's really typical of me. I'm a slow loser and always have been. Of course the RNY surgery has helped me lose 105 pounds in 8 months and by normal standards, that is NOT slow, but I've always been the kind if person that does not drop very easily. That 105 lbs has been with me working out very frequently, staying away from sugar and trying not to over stuff myself. It hasn't been without some of my old ugly habits though. :)

Congrats on your renewed weight loss! That's great.

Isn't it amazing? I had to remind myself all day yesterday to eat so I can meet my protein requirement. LOL I am really glad that we all here have eachother for support.  It keeps me on task and accountable when I know someone is counting on my updates. So I thank you very much for the support and friendship.
As for not dropping easily it is the same for me.  The only reason why I droped so much the first week it was because of the water weight.  I am only 1/2 pound less today but that means that I have to really work on getting that 1 1/2 pound off and keep the weight off.

Take care and keep up the great work. I can't wait to hear about today!

I really am enjoying reading everyone's progress on the 5DPT! I am on Day 5 and plan on having a small lean cheeseburger for dinner tonight w/o the bread of course. I will put some mayonnaise on it so it goes down a bit easier.

I'm doing well remembering to take in extra protein and finding that I am actually enjoying the New Whey Liquid Protein 42g.

Last night (Day 4) I found myself getting home from work late and not feeling up to cooking, so we went out to Ruby Tuesdays and I checked their menu well and found out they have (FT)= Fit & Trim menu items. I ordered the (Porta) Bella Chicken w/o the sauce and choose the grilled aspargus as a side.

As of yesterday, I am down 5 lbs and know that it will take a lot of work to get down to where I want to be. I also find myself wanting something to munch on, and have been sticking with proteins... cheese and/or lean deli ham.

I may find myself leaning towards Round 2 of the 5DPT like Cira. I never even considered doing it a second wee****il reading that Cira was and is having success.

Thanks to all that posted and keep me inspired.

Many thanks,
Ren

Keep me posted on how the second week goes for you.  This week has been really easy for me. I am not hungry at all and I am enjoying my new found pouch restriction.

Thank you so much for the support and inspiration.
