Newbie (kind of) to the board

Hi, I joined this past April with the intention of having a revision to my Fobi procedure (1992) once I had undergone a total knee replacement (5/25/10).  I had my first appointment with the nutritionist on 12/17/10 and was accepted into the program for the revision two weeks ago. I had an issue with documenting my weight loss as the records were 16-18years old and no longer existed but, alas!, I'm in and going through the six month pre-op program. I'm trying to diligently follow a low carb, low fat, high protein diet but I'm not a saint.  Having moments when I would really love a hamburger but haven't caved in.  Did have my moment of weakness on New Years Eve with a couple of Twix bars land half a muffin but I'm tired of being food centered and associating things such as holidays with eating so I went straight back to following the diet in the morning. Well, all wasn't lost. Had a zero calorie drink with those Twix bars and half a muffin.

I've lost ten pounds since April, mostly in the pre-op waiting for my knee replacement. Didn't lose any over the summer in my post-op period (food-centered again...) because I figured if I was in pain and suffering, I was going to have chocolate.  On the flip side, it was too much trouble to get downstairs and back up again to raid the fridge and all the physical therapy kept me from gaining.

I haven't weighed myself since starting the pre-op diet but I've been keeping the food diary and sticking to it about 95% of the time. Clothing is getting loose so I must be succeeding. Life is easier now that I've taken the food equation out of the daily mix. Instead of wondering what I am going to fix when I get home or if there is anything in the fridge or should I stop at the grocery or call for a pizza, I've got a supply of healthy choice steamers, greek yogurt and fruit at home, and every day at work, I have 1/2 a bagel and light cream cheese for breakfast on the go (love David and Dad's Express in downtown Baltimore. They are my morning food police!) and the SuperFresh salad bar for lunch.  I'm feeling much better physically and about myself. <>

My six month period on 6/19/11.  Peter Liao is going to be my surgeon, if anyone has any info on him. All I know at this point is my boss who is a med mal attorney hasn't sued him so that is a good thing, haha.  The nutritionist has agreed to let me use the board as my support group so I don't have to deal with traveling to a meeting. Work is consuming and after the end of a work day, after the morning, lunchtime, and evening walk, the express bus commute, and up and down all day, my knee is screaming and I just want to go home and cave in.

I'm looking forward to making acquaintances here on the board in Maryland and elsewhere.
