Well had surgery on 8/26/10  and three week check up this past Wednesday and everything was on track according to Dr Kligman.  a total of 26 lbs lost since dscharge from hospital.  Now I am suppsoed to be transitioning to soft foods.  Well last night I had an experience that I SCARED me to
almost to death.  I was hungry for chicken lo mein and ordered a pint from the local place.  When I took the first bite and chewed it very well ( or so I thought) I got a pain in the middle of my stomache so bad I couldn't breathe.  My mouth started watering and then I started to throw up. It wasn't much but I had paper towels to catch anything until i got to the bathroom and when I did throw up it was about a table spoon.  On the paper towels there wasfresh blood.  Needless to say I stopped eating and later I ate some pudding and took a pill for nausea.  I have decided that I probably am rushing too many new things at one time.  I am going back to soft bland things for a while.

Any one else ever have an experience like this?

i did have an experience like that, however i never had any blood come up. you might want to check that out. also, my surgeon told me to avoid noodles and such in the begining. i would try softly made stuff (like boiled chx or tuna fish not pureed, scrambled egg, etc..). you can have flavor in your food too, lots of people have great recipes. it may not been that you chewed well enough or not, it could have been that your pouch just wasnt ready for the "heavier" stuff.
its all try and learn.

congrates on the weight loss so far!

OOH-

Painful experience. Either something got stuck  or the entree was too rich. I expect the chicken was the culprit.  I experience something similiar by eating fried fish while I was 13 days out. I thought by pulling only the flesh out would not hurt me but the flesh was saturated with the oil that it was cooked in. I wretched for about 30 minutes before it finally came up.

It is recommended that when this happens  to give your tummy a break for about 24 hours by reverting to liquids and mushies.

But the blood is an issue. Contact Dr Kligman or one of his nurses about this. There should not be any blood.

I am over 10 months out and I STILL have to be very careful with any kind of chicken unless its ground chicken (or any kind of poultry).  My pouch hates it.

When I transitioned to soft foods, I stuck to things like cottage cheese, ricotta, refried beans, scrambled eggs, etc.

I find that when I eat bread or anything along those lines that I get a feeling that something is stuck in my chest and my mouth starts to water...and later comes the fomies. No blood though. Its a learning experience on what you can eat now vice pre-op. I had a craving for combo lo mein and wow what a bummer..I could eat a few pieces of the protien but the noodles are hard to get down.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day!
