You'll hear conflicting things on the soda topic. Some people say the carbonation will stretch your pouch, but that's an old wives tale. Some do have problems with the carbonaton making them all gassy and bubbly like.  I'll have a Diet Pepsi a couple times a week and I don't drink it flat. The bubbles don't bother me, so I figure one here or there won't kill me.

Hi,

I am 3 1/2 years out and I still can not tolerate the carbonation.  But I let my soda get nice and flat and I might drink a few ounces here and there.  I used to be a Pepsi holic before surgery. I easily drank 2 to 3 liters a day.  Now I just don't like it like before.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

I used to drink 3 or 4 Diet Pepsis a day before surgery.  I haven't had a soda in 3 years.  I'm afraid the carbonation would just kill me.  I can't handle anything bubbly.  I have enough gas without it. lol.

What advice did your surgeon and/or nutritionist give you relative to drinking soda?  Certainly you received information from your doctor's office.  I would follow your surgeon's advice.  Plain and simple.

I was told the carbonation could cause a serious condition in the digestive system, I don't recall the name of it though.

I've never been a big soda drinker but I would crave one once in a while.  So I really don't miss it.

I did end up drinking a few sips of ginger ale on the airplane during a recent vacation...luckily it was pretty flat (normally a person would complain) but it did end up settling down my stomach a little.

Before I flew home, I found some s/f ginger candies instead.

Congrats on your loss so far! :)
