First of all congrats on the weight loss so far.  Stop beating yourself up and you are doing the right thing by reevaluating the situation.  I honestly hope I am as sucessful after 4 months ( we have the same dr).  everyone looses at a different rate weather or not they do it through surgerical intervention or the conventional way.  Talk with Mary B , go back over your suppliments, diet, exerise routine and fluid intake, It could be a matter of changing things around and increasing your protien.  Good luck and if you need to talk send me a pm and we will.

never settle for less than you deserve and you deserve only the best.

Oh thank you, Cira. You are thoughtful. Well, it was a bit of a whiney post and I had second thoughts about posting it on the board rather than as a blog post (where it might have been more appropriate) and so I deleted it. I just couldn't figure out how to remove the post! Duh.

Anyway, it was asking about sample menus at 4 months out. Here is a sample of some of the questions I asked:

-How many calories a day were you eating at 4 months?
-Carbs are ok (whole grain and vegetables) with my program. Have you had significantly greater success avoiding them altogether?
-Is 60 grams of protein ok at this stage? Should it be more?
-How much are you eating at one sitting? (oz of protein, cups of yogurt, cups of veg or fruit, etc)
-What do you eat for breakfast? (besides yogurt)
-What is your idea of a truly successful exercise schedule look like? Frequency? Level of activity?

If you have any insight, please do share! Thank you very much. :)

Hi Laura,

Oh sweetie this is a support site. You shouldn't feel that posting this type of stuff isn't appropriate. Many of us have been through the same as you so we can offer some advise to help you out.

-How many calories a day were you eating at 4 months?

At 4 months out I was barely getting 700 calories a day.  I just couldn't get much in.

-Carbs are ok (whole grain and vegetables) with my program. Have you had significantly greater success avoiding them altogether?

I didn't avoid the good carbs they are essential to have. I just kept it to a minimum.  But I was pregnant at 4 months out and I was told to eat more to be able to sustain the pregnancy. When my doc told me to eat more he gave me a list of healthy stuff to eat. not just eat anything I could get my hands on.
Yes I had a mishap, I wasn't planning to get pregnant it happened. But what a blessing my little petite girl is. ;)

-Is 60 grams of protein ok at this stage? Should it be more?'

I believe 60 grams is very little.  I know that when I was early out I could barley make it to 50 grams a day. But once I was able to increase my protein I was losing more.  I lost weight through out my entire pregnancy until my 36 & 37Th week.  The ideal amount of protein to take in is dividing your weight in half and adding 10 more grams to that amount.  By the amount that I weigh I should be getting in at least 82 grams a day. I usually take in anywhere from 85 to 100 grams a day.

-How much are you eating at one sitting? (oz of protein, cups of yogurt, cups of veg or fruit, etc)

When I was 4 months out I was only allowed to eat 4 oz of food at one sitting. I had to measure my food every time.  I measured my pudding, yogurts, apple sauce anything that went into my mouth.

-What do you eat for breakfast? (besides yogurt)

I didn't do well with boiled eggs early out, so I would have scrambled eggs mixed in milk, cut up a thin slice of ham and 1 slice of American cheese.  The eggs had to be moist in order for me not to get sick eating them. I would make sure to get only four ounces, I would have a small piece of fruit. I eat Cream of wheat made with milk, splenda, and blue bonnet margarine, oatmeal, occasionally i would have 1 slice of bacon. Maybe 1 time a month.  This is a new life style and moderation is key. I would eat egg over easy.sometimes. I also bought this healthy pancake mix , made with flax seed, and wheat and protein.

-What is your idea of a truly successful exercise schedule look like? Frequency? Level of activity?

I don't have a gym membership, but I do walk 3 to 4 times a week. I also exercise with beach body workout DVDs 3 times a week. You have to make sure your heart reaches to healthy fast pace for you. The good thing about the work out that I am doing is that it makes me use my muscles in different ways to keep my muscles from getting used to the exercise.

I hope this helps some. I am here for you and if there is anything you need to talk about please contact me asap.

You are doing fantastic, not every patient has the same outcome.  Your doctor is very difficult with his patients but he does it to keep his patients focused so that they can reach their goal.

Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Hugs,

Cira

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! That's perfect. This is exactly what I needed...some ideas and perspective.  I don't have any issues with food getting stuck or making me feel sick so it's a struggle for me to keep my calories low and that's been difficult for me. Thanks Cira!

You are very welcome!  Add a protein bar if you get hungry or drink a protein shake to add the amopunt of protein you need. Also make sure it is the low sugar protein bars with high protein grams.

The higher your amount of protein you ingest you will feel fuller.

How many calories are you having a day? Your carb intake should be 30% of what you take a day. 25 % of fat and 45 %

Good luck ;)
