Got my date
No idea on the blood sugar. But as for after surgery. You just need to have someone drive you home from the hospital and drive you until you are cleared by the surgeon, after your first appointment. I believe that was 1 week after surgery. Other than that, I did it all alone. It's just Sip, sip, walk, walk, rest, rest. Repeat! That's all you'll be doing. Have your prescription filled on way home from hospital. You'll be up and walking a few hours after surgery. Keep moving, you'll heal faster. Good luck.
Lori, I must say it is about time. I guess the saying good things come to those who wait is true and we all know you have waited so long. Good luck your time will be here before you know it. Julie

Congratulations to you. I have seen you posting for quite some time. My surgery is on 8/16/10. So I am looking forward to us losing and growing in our knowledge together. You will need to discuss with the doctors about how often they want you to monitor your blood sugar. I am sure they will also need to address your diabetic medication as well. Are you on a oral anti hyperglycemia or insulin at thie time? If you are on insulin is it routine or a sliding scale insulin? How often are you currently checking your blood sugars? Good luck.
Linda.
Linda.
Congrats. Prior to surgery make sure your cabinets are stocked w/ the appropriate foods. If you will have someone helping you with meals make sure they have instructions. I had a shelf in the fridge designated for me w/ instructions on the fridge door. I wish I had some Tylenol b/c percot was too strong for pain as time wore on.

Congrats and best wishes for a safe surgery and speedy recovery and weight loss!
If you're diabetic, make sure your surgeon and nutritionist plan for you but with this high protein, low carb diet it should be good for you! If you're not diabetic, I've never heard of anyone checking their blood surgar levels.
As for preparing for recovery, everyone has pretty much covered it... ride home, Prescriptions filled, stock up on water and protein shakes, SF Popsicles and broth! And yeah.... remember to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk!!!
I had a drain, not everyone does... ask your dr. But if you do, no worries - it wasn't a problem to measure and empty it. I also had blood thinner shots, (Lovenox) 2x daily in abdomen. Although I first freaked about giving myself shot, it really was no big deal!! Such a small needle, similar to insulin shots - but if you're squeamish or phobic, you might ask someone to do it for you. My advise with them, although the instructions tell you to 'pinch an inch' -Don't!!! You bruise more by pinching and it doesn't make any difference if you don't. And I agree, Percoset would be pretty heavy meds for at home pain relief, ask for Tylenol 3 instead and keep regular Tylenol on the ready.
