Doesn't anyone care anymore???

Ok. So I have been writing all over OH and can't get anyone to respond. Sadly enough I never made my goal. Even sadder, I gained back 20 over the last 6 years. I had open RNY 12/17/03. Started at 308 and lost 128 lbs. I currently weigh 199. woo hoo for being under 200 (barely). I can't shake this weight. Was up an additional 23 lbs at one time when I quit smoking and concered that weight by following weigh****chers. But WW doesn't seem to even want to work this time. Has anyone gained any weight back??? Am I the only one out there struggling??? It was hard enough to admit to myself I am stuck, but to put it out here (you see my desperation) and to have NO ONE able to offer any suggestions or hope to finally get my last 35 lbs off...is heart breaking.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO CARES???

Lori,

I care.  The first Saturday of every month, Barix in Langhorne, PA, has a really awesome support group....it's definitely worth the time it takes to get there.  If you would like to go with me one Saturday, please PM me.  I meet another friend in Lancaster and we ride together.  I'd love to have you join us.  The support group is 1-1/2 or 2 hours for the summer months.  In June, three of us went out to lunch afterwards and made a day of it.  Normally, the meeting lasts 4 hours.  They always have a dietitician present to answer questions.  You can also buy vitamins, protein mix, protein bars, etc., from her.

Being just a year out next month, I can't give you any advice but I'm sure others in the group will be able to offer support/suggestions.

I live in Red Lion, PA and you are more than welcome to meet me at my house and ride with me.  I believe you can come right across Route 30.  Hope to hear from you.

Debbie

Lori,

The research has shows that patients will gain back some (around 20lbs or so)  This is something that most surgeons don't tell their patients.

Do you attend support groups?  I started my own in Calvert County and need that once a month group just to stay focused and discuss issues with people that know what I am going through.

Do you exercise?  I have been slacking in the exercise department and haven't lost any in quite a while.  I know I have to bump that up if I want to get to goal.

Have you had follow ups with the surgeon?  They will hold you accountable.

Do you take your vitamins?  These are important and will also help to lose weight...

Finally,  Have you thought about a therapist that specializes in weight related issues?  I also know this is a road I will have to take since I am addicted to food.

I'm almost 3 years out and I also gained back 20 pounds this winter.  I thankfully lost 16 of it this summer.  (Can't tell my secret though).  Seriously though.  I went back to my Nutritionist on a regular basis (I found an inexpensive one).  I do food logs daily.  I wear a pedometer.  I'm back into therapy regularly.  Do I exercise like the rest of the folks on this board? No way! But, I am pushing myself to get in more steps each day.  I am watching what is going in my mouth.  It really only takes little steps.  You'd be surprised.  Good luck. Karen

Keep plugging away also you need to believe in yourself first off that you can do this. Exercise, Lotsa water, and absolutely leave the temptations alone. Everybody likes to eat, me included it is just knowing what to eat and when. I gained quite a bit back before I had my lapband removed and was disapointed in myself believe me and it was the lapband leaking and me knowing I could eat more. When you go to cookouts leave the buns and dessert alone if there is chicken eat that instead, water instead of sweet drinks or carry your own water with you alcohol is only to be drank in moderation. Pick yourself up and get back on track and do what you need to do to get this weight loss moving again. Eat healthier. I use to think going out to a restaurant that salad was safe enough to eat with all the chicken on top that was fried prior to going on my salad and the dressing I would have extra brought out to me thinking I'm eating healthy WRONG. I was in fact eating more calories than if I would have eaten a 3 piece dinner from Popeyes. Again pick yourself up and attack the weight again and above all exercise more even if it is for 15 minutes a day. I go in Monday for revision to sleeve and I have lost 20.2 pounds in a month and a half presurgery so if I can do it anybody can do it and that includes you. I was just like you so I know how you feel. Also start eating more Fish, Turkey, and chicken and lotsa veggies and use veggies for snacks instead of fattening stuff. You can do it we all know you can and stay on the boards and go to some support meetings they are great.

Lori -
I hope that you find the answers that you are looking for.  I know that you must be so frustrated.  I am new to this group and WLS....just had lap band on Friday the 9th.

I live in Carroll County too (Manchester area).  I wish I knew of a local support group.  I know that GBMC where I had my surgery done has them.....maybe Carroll County hospital does too?  Have you checked there?

I wish that I could offer more sound advice but I am just learning myself.

Congrats to becoming a loser...It's a wonderful thing !!

Wow so nice to hear someone else in Carroll County has had the surgery. I had mine done at Good Samaritan by Dr. William Roe.  He was great but things have changed and I have no desire to return to him. I should probably get a check up re: RNY but don't any doctors in this area that would even see me since they did not perform the surgery. Who was your doctor???

I would love to maybe get together some time. Even if just for added support for ourselves. I always have the need to hold myself accountable for my actions, ie. eating, exercise, etc.  It would be nice to have someone to chat with about it. Let me know what you think.

Thank you for responding. It means a lot to me.

Lori,
My doctor was Dr. Peter Liao at GBMC.  Love him!  The staff is great too.  I belong to Four Seasons Sports Complex in Hampstead.  Do you work out anywhere?  I am hoping to get started next week again since my surgery.  Lets keep chatting and I would love to catch up sometime.

Thank you everyone *****plied. Your strong words of encouragement ring true. I think I have that old mind set that I want it to go overnite. We all no that is not possible. So today I will start with baby steps. Eat the right food and only when I'm hungry. And my goal for today will be to drink at least 2 bottles (16 oz. each) of water. I would love for you all to keep in touch with me as I will you.
Happy Losers we will be together.....

Lori,
Could water and liquid be your stumbling block?  Our surgeon tells us MINIMUM of 64 ounces of water a day... I aim for 100...  I normally fall at about 80 and have done well not to gain ****il our vacation which is a whole big story...)

I am not yet at goal and have now revised my goal...  My original goal was 250, when I hit that I reset it at 200, but now am pretty sure I was asking to much of myself, my surgeon wanted me to hit 225, but I am frozen at 237 (242 after vacation... )  I am happy where I am, I lost 190 pounds and can do almost anything I want to do physically (I never wanted to wear a bikini!).

Stick to what you learned in the beginning - for me, it is eat no more than every 4 hours, PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN and LIQUIDS...  I am hoping to revisit 237 and below in the next few weeks... Exercise should help, and eating in a country that does not cook EVERYTHING in lard will hopefully be the key!
