VSG vs. RNY
Have you been to the VSG forum? I think it comes down to what you are comfortable with. Some folks have the RNY and do great with no complications. I was not willing to go that route. I chose the VSG. I was not a big snacker nor did I feel the need to possibly dump to keep me from eating sweets. Talk to your doctor and read everything you can about both procedures before you make a final decision.
Yes, I've read both the RNY and VSG forum. . . .I'm comfortable with the VSG, but I'm such a big snacker and I love sweets so that's why I'm leaning toward the RNY. However, I'm so afraid that I will have a lot of complications with the RNY. I'll be talking with my doctor soon. Thanks for the input!!!
Hi Melissa - just quick comment on your debate on VSG over RNY...only you can really make the decision (with your surgeon) but speaking as someone who is with a surgeon in the same practice, I can comfortably say that with Dr. K and Dr. Lomenzo, you are in really great, capable hands. Their success rate is phenominal. I'm sure they can't promise you wont have complications from an RNY (or any surgery) but they can do a superb job and they are very attentive and present in your recovery. I think what I'm saying is that I THINK (and many agree with me) that you have an above average surgeon with fantastic stats and that is something that should be considered when you discuss this with them.
Best of luck!
Best of luck!
Thanks Laura!!! You're totally right, Dr. K and Dr. Lo Menzo have a great success rate. My last appointment before my surgery is 7/21 with Dr. Lo Menzo so I'll make my final decision that day. I know at least one other person who is a patient of Dr. K and she's doing great!!! Thanks for all the encouragement and support. You have such a positive attitude!!!!
I'm doing the Sleeve because I didn't want anything rerouted and I don't have any problems with leaving sweets alone. They say if you mess up and eat sweets with the RNY you will never do it again. But Mel just weigh all the options it is what you will be fine with. We are all here to support you in whatever you decide.
I started my classes getting RNY and switched to VSG for the same reason.
My sister had RNY and I thought that's what I wanted.
I did not know about VSG until 5 weeks before my surgery. That's when I changed my mind. I found a new surgeon and at my 1st appointment with him he scheduled my surgery date for 3 weks later.
I cant tell you what to do but I would suggest VSG
