I havent seen this curious topic on the site before but I was wondering , after wls secially rny can you chew chewing gum?    I know that the chewing process makes the stomach work and was curious if any one had experience with this.  Just a curiou question.

I chew gum all the time and I've never found it to be problematic. If it weren't for chewing a piece of gum, I don't know that I'd ever be able to go 30-60 mins without drinking after a meal. The only thing I've ever heard is that we have to be careful not to swallow it.

My surgeon advises against it because of all the air pulling into the pouch that can stretch it just as carbonation can. However I chew gum often SUGAR FREE and I just try not to chew like a cow. ha ha and I am EXTRA CAREFUL NOT TO SWALLOW!

No gum here.  Ever.  Don't mind though.

I chew SF gum all the time even though it was advised against because of the air. If I didn't, though, no one would be able to stand next to me due to the ketosis breath...ugh.

wow i'm so glad i found this topic! i was literally just wondering the same thing!  Chewing gum was how i got through my cravings before my RNY. Now, i am way too paranoid that i will swallow it too even put a piece in my mouth.

No gum for the first 4 months for us due to the air, etc, I have a piece now on rare occassions (I'm 8 months out), but I'm a mint-aholic.  I always have SF mints with me for when I'm done eating.  But I used to be a HUGE gum chewer before surgery....

HTH!
