Hi guys.  Had my first follow up day.  8 days post-op and I'm down 17.5 pounds.  Woo hoo!  One question.  My surgeon wants me to hit 64 oz water a day and 70-90 grams of protein.  It's been tough getting it all in and I'm hitting about 45-50 gms of protein.  I'm still on a full liquid diet..  Is this normal?

Are you sure he didn't mean 64 oz of 'fluids'?  I don't recall ever hearing of a surgeon expecting 64 oz of water and not including your water based protein shakes, decaf tea or coffee, broth, even SF Popsicles towards your fluid intake. I know every surgeon seems to follow their own dietary guidelines.... but that's been pretty consistent.  If anything, some surgeons require only 48 oz.

It was difficult for me to get 64 oz total fluids and I did count them!! And now that I've added solid proteins and low carbs... it's even harder... I still don't always make 64 oz fluids.

I'd call my dr and confirm... and if so... I'd have to question WTF?

You are having an awesome begining to what will be an amazing ride!  Your doc's numbers (assuming he meant fluids and not jus****er) seem pretty normal.  So do your struggles at one week out.  Your pouch will heal, and it will get easier.  In the mean time, please keep trying to come as close as you can to the numbers.  De-hydration is an ugly thing.  So remember sip, walk, rest and repeat.

Keep up the good work - it does get easier, I promise.

70-90 is the goal and any non-caffeine drinks should count as fluids that includes protein...

8 days out... just keep doing the best you can do.
