Never thought I would be told I have to eat more

I know I have been out of the loop for awhile, but my life has been nuts!  And I have been recovering just fine from surgery, and honestly other than when I eat and the fact that I have nearly no clothing that fits me properly, I have no idea that I had surgery.

So I am nearly 3 months out, and the past week I have been getting hungry (real hunger, the weird empty feeling I get when I know my pouch needs me to consume food) about 2 hours after I eat, and I have been trying to follow the rules and eat 3 solid meals a day, so I ignore the hunger and keep sipping at my water.  Well If I wait about 3 hours, i start getting dizzy and feeling slightly sick.  So I emailed my NUT and it turns out I have to tart eating more.  She told me to start trying to eat more at my meals and if I cannot do that to plan a snack.

Just to let everyone know, I have been getting more than enough protein everyday, normally over 70g, and I am drinking plenty of fluids.

I am just amazed I am being told I am not eating enough, but I have just been eating until I am satisfied, and that had been fine, but I guess my pouch needs a little more to be satisfied now.

 Its all a learning process!

it seems counter intuitive to us but i'm having a similar problem.  I'm burning around 2300 calories on gym days so I need nearly 1600 calories per day and that's darn near impossible for me...  I keep trying to eat more too..

OMG 1600 calories, I cannot even imagine! They want me up near 800 calories a day and that seems impossible!  I have been working out every day, but not nearly as hard as you! But my weight loss has stalled...I have been stuck for 2 weeks now, trying very hard not to get discouraged.

I usually get around 1400....  but because I am so low on calories and sleep I am losing way more slowly than I want...

Dr A has told me the same thing, eat more.

It's also important to eat more because eventually your body might think you are starving and start hoarding fat cells. Which eventually leads to it breaking muscle cells into fat cells because they are easier to store.

You are doing awesome :-)

You need to eat more.  Add a morning and afternoon snack.  Nuts are good.  I also like the Oh Yeah Protein Bars - the small ones (Choc/Carmel are my favorite). I get a case of them at the Vitamin shoppe. 15 g protein, 8 g fat and 190 cal.  They are great and a perfect afternoon snack.  You may only be able to eat half at first. If both of these are too hard for you, do some ricotta with cinnamon and splenda. But if you are getting dizzy - that is always my clue that I need protein. You have to eat to lose. Don't starve yourself. Good luck. Karen

yea normally i eat 4-5 small meals a day. lots of small snacks. plus you could be developing blood sugar issues so eating more frequently will help that as well.

Thanks for all the information everyone! Dr. A told me I should be sticking to 3 solid meals a day, but I think I am going to have to snack, it is the only way I can "eat more".

I have an appointment with him Next friday so I will talk to him more then.

I am on my new super low carb regiment and I eat all day long.  This might sound crazy but I am sure Nessa can identify as she weighs less than me.  I am suppose to be on 1800 calories to avoid starvation mode.  I have a hard time getting this in but lucky with my band I can have a decent amount of good fats and the fats do help up the calories but  I have been stuck all due to the same that causes many of us to get stuck...lack of sleep and low in cals.

I also i have a protein regimen of 100grams per day because of course how low my carbs are. My NUT recommends a shake over a bar anyday as we are told the bars have too many impact carbs and many times are glorified candy bars.  sigh...i love some protein bars but they are off my list.

I am almost 9 months out and it's still a learning process for me...i think for many of us.  I eat about 8x a day - small portions but again I fight for those calories.
