Dr Schweitzer and DS

I read an old post that Dr Schweitzer (think it was ReedsMommy...sorry I couldnt click on your profile) anyway, the poster said that Dr Schweitzer does the DS in two surgeries. Does that mean firs he does the sleeve, sends you home to see how you do, then you go back for the actual DS part if you need it?

Im back and forth between the RNY and DS...well really leaning for the DS if I can have it. Ive dealt with a pouch for 15 months now and if I can have a more 'regular' stomach, thats what I want.

Since Im a revision, wonder if I would have to do that. Im still trying to get in for a consultation. I watched the video and sent in all my paperwork yesterday morning. I called the office...uh, yeah to make sure they got my stuff...and they said Dr Schweitzer would be in Monday to reveiw my papers....

Oh...also for those that had the DS what was your BMI? Im actually up a couple pounds from my ticker but I guess Im still a lightweight.

Thanks

I researched DS too.  I put Dr. S on my potential list of doctors but I found out that he only does the 2-step now.  He used to do the 1 step.  There is a Dr. in MD that does 1 step DS but I have not heard much from his patients and he only does it open.  DS options in MD are lacking.  Dr. S's office will not tell you this unless you pry.  I called, inquired about DS and they happily booked an appt for me.  I posted a similar question on the DS forum and they gave me the scoop.  I called the office back and sure enough no  'real' DS, just the two step so I cancelled the appt.  I am not sure how a revision would work.  You may want to post on the DS forum or go to dsfacts.com to find more doctors who perform them and revisions.  You may be pleased w/ step 1...it could be all you need potentially.   Dr. Elariny in nothern VA seems to have a following, he does 1 step ds.

Good luck!

From what I understand he does the sleeve then waits a year, then if you still need it he will do the switch.  I have heard he believes most people can be successful with just the sleeve portion.

My BMI was 47 but you should be ok where yours is now.

Go to www.dsfacts.com and look at the surgeon list.  There are some good ones not too far from here.  There is one in Northern Va but I understand he is out of network for most insurance companies.  There is also one near or in Philadelphia.  I understand he is also very good.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. Uh, that sucks! If I couldnt lose twith the band, I seriously doubt I'll lose with the sleeve. I really need the malabsorption.

I still at least need a second opinion, so  I'll at least go talk to them.

Damn...thats depressing.

Good Lord!
How long do they take to get back to you?? LOL I faxed my paperwork to them a week ago and Im still waiting for them to call with an appt for a consulation...

Just getting frustrated. I called them today and they said it could be 7 -10 days before you hear from us. Ok...so tomorrow is 7 days.

Im just complaining...this band is sucking the life out of me.
