Three Years Out and I need help
My three year anniversary is coming up and boy do I feel like a failure. I initially lost 85 lbs then gained 25 back over the last 2 years. Winters seam to be my gaining time. I have been horrible at everything. I get on the horse then back off. What is wrong with me. Everyone I know that had surgery after me has lost more weight and I am excited for them but just makes me realize how I failed. I know what I need to do but why don't I just do it. I am never giving up. I have thyroid issues so its causing a slow down also.
The Dr. suggested a 1,000 calorie a day.
Anyone out there three years or more out loose weight, then gained some, then lost it again. Is this possible. I need to hear that there is still hope for me yet.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Tonia

I am only 14 months out, but it is a up and down road for me now - and I suspect for everyone. I think the key for you is to remember how far you have come! Everyone bounces around, pre, post and no op... Your body will have its ups and downs. We have to look at WLS as a tool, not a quick fix or solution. Weight is something you have to deal with forever - the good and bad days.
My thoughts are to journal - I do MUCH better emotionally and on the scale when I am more anal about writing what I ate, how many calories (the good AND the bad) and marking my weight down. It has also shown me which parts of the month is BAD news and that my hormones are a HUGE part of my problem - I can tell you that I go up and down 4 plus pounds in a day during certain times and it annoys me greatly, but it also shows me the eb and flow of my weight loss journey.
Have you seen your surgeon, or did your PCP give you the 1,000 calories a day advice? That seems low for your time from surgery and alot depends on how much exercise you are getting... Maybe some of those here who are further out can give you better advice!
Good Luck!

i'm sorry you are going through this. i am trying to figure it out myself. i lost 110 lbs but then stopped way far from my goal. i wasn't eating right or exercising so i knew why but it still sucked LOL. I have started making changes but keep having too many bad days and not enough exercise to get anymore weight off. i'm kinda frustrated too because it is very hard for me to lose now. i am going to have to cut back alot on food and exercise daily, even if it's just a walk outside. angie had some good advice too. good luck!
I am almost 3 years out and have been struggling with the same issues. I gained 20 lbs over the winter. I got very depressed. I started back with my Nutritionist and have been keeping jounals daily. I got myself a pedometer and have been trying to get in about 10,000 steps a day. It's not that easy to do. In addition, I went back to my therapist and was put back on antidepressants - that's when I saw the real results. I dropped 15 lbs in 3 weeks. Try everything that you think with help. Food logs, exercise, therapy. Try it all. I now have about 4lbs to go. Good luck - get your head around it. Karen
