Im still working with my current surgeon, but Just in case...I figure it cant hurt to get a second opinion or back up surgeon in view.

I have bc/bs federal so I know for sure I will have to use a Center of Distinction. I live in southern MD and my dr is at Potomac in Woodbridge. Baltimore my be a little farther out, but they are the only other closest place. I checked out GW, but dont see them as a center of ditinction.

Anyway, Im looking at

Michael Schweitzer
Hien Nguyen
Kimberly Steele

Basically in that order. How has your experience with these people been? I can be a little sensitive I guess and CAN have a hard time dealing with doctors who dont have the bedside manner. I also dont want to wait a month at a time for an appt either.

Oh...BTW, this would be for a revision.

Thanks for then input!

Good Luck!
I used Dr. Averbach at St. Agnes, so everything I know about these surgeons has come from this board...  Many love St. Steele and Dr/ Schweitzer but I have not read much about about Dr. Nguyen...

I believe Dr. Steele will be on maternity leave after mid May and I have also read that she has rescheduled patients before that to have surgery with Dr. Schweitzer (and this for ME raised a HUGE flag and I would have not went with either of those surgeons being the person I am...  But that was just something that I thought when I read about the other persons experiences...)  I have also been told Dr. S has a stern personality and lack of a bedside manor.. Dr. Steele is the exact opposite from what I hear - that said, alot will depend on your time frame and how long she plans to be off....

Good luck choosing a surgeon!  Who did your band, would you return to that surgeon?

As Nicole said, Dr. Schweitzer is an awesome surgeon.  However, he is lacking in the bedside manner.  Personally, I didn't care because he was only in my room for 5 minutes max.  What about Dr. Lidor?  I know she has a great bedside manner!  She actually visited me in the hospital and we joked around about Schweitzer's not-so-fuzzy personality!!!

All of that said, I would still choose Schweitzer.  I was looking for the best SURGEON, not a friend.

I had surgery 6 weeks ago with Dr. Schweitzer and had no problems with him.  He is not going to be my best friend but he answered every question I had and then looked at my husband and asked if he had questions.  The first time I met with him I was very nervous because I had read how abrupt he was but I had a list and he listened and answered patiently.  I went into surgery feeling very confident in my surgeons ability.  He never made me feel bad about me even when I gained 10 lbs while waiting to get everything approved through insurance and such.  I would have no problem recommending him.

Thanks for all the info!

I just got off the phone with the office and they sent me the info session (I guess cause I want to revise to something else) and Im getting all my paperwork together to send over.

Now I just have to get up the nerve to call my current office and get copies of my discharge summary and blood work I just had done.
Why am I so nervous to call and ask for that??

I too had Dr. Magnuson; he and his surgical team are absolutely wonderful!  Hopkins Bayview is a wonderful place also; everyone was so nice, patient and extremely helpful.
