How much could you eat/drink at 1 week out?

And here she goes with the questions!

I'm actually not even 1 week out, I just had surgery Thursday the 6th as you know. I feel like I can eat/drink a lot more than most people. Don't worry, I'm not pushing it and I am following my surgeon's instructions to the letter, but I still feel like I can take in a lot of liquid...in sips. I don't feel full on liquids, even protein shakes (ready to drink). So, I'm just having recommended portions and stopping there, feeling for fullness. Plus liquids are just overall easier for me to get down so rather than fretting over the food so much, I'm getting a lot of my protein that way for now. When I say liquids I mean soup, water, protein shakes, etc.. Anyway, just interested if you remembered what it was like for you...the average day/menu???

Thanks all! Also thanks for all your kind messages.

drinking slowly you can get more liquids that your supposed to and not harm things. (the liquid drains right into the intestines before filling the pouch) it is a good idea to follow the recomendations of your surgeon. rest assured, as you continue your journey to solids, you will feel the fullness!

i hope all is well!

sips are fine.  you're still healing.  your nerves are cut and you can't really feel anything so it's important to follow the doctors information as closely as you can...

i never had problems getting stuff down...

of course the first time you take a gulp (cause you forgot to sip), you'll find out what it means to hurt....

Per my surgeon, I was on clear liquids for the first week after surgery.  I did 8 oz of protein drink per day and sipped on clear liquids all day.  I was no where near 64 oz. per day though.  You won't feel "full" right away, the nerves to your stomach have been cut.  Jus****ch your intake, get in as much as you can and you should be fine.

Laura,

I can remember eating (well sipping - lol) Cream of Asparagus soup.  I would measure out 2 ounces and always felt like I could have eaten more, but I never did.  I ate a lot of Greek yogurt since it took me longer to eat it, and that was one of the rules for me.  Take 20 or longer minutes to eat.  The soup seemed to go down so much faster -- I mean, really, how long does it take to eat 2 ounces of liquid soup on a teeny tiny spoon - lol - just measure your food and follow your doctor's orders and you'll be fine.  So glad everything is going good for you.  Keep up the great job!

Debbie

P.S.  I remember going to my first surgical followup and saying to the doctor "I don't feel like I have a pouch" and his response was "Oh, you will."  LOL LOL - I know I have a pouch now and I laugh everytime I remember his words while visualizing that smile he had on his face that day - lol

My surgeon's orders are that I can have as a meal (here's an example):

1/2 cup strained soup (4 oz)
1/4 cup (2oz) ricotta (or greek yogart)

and to eat to fullness. When it comes to soup, I CAN eat it all...I'm just wondering if it's too much...

Laura,

It's really funny how every surgeon's orders are different.  I was only allowed 2 ounces, but 2 ounces of Greek Yogurt was much more filling than 2 ounces of Creamed soup, so I ate Greek yogurt and refried beans the first few weeks.  Protein drinks really made me nauseous -- I had much diffculty with that until around 8 weeks out, when I was introduced to Max Protein -- which I still drink daily and love it.

You're doing really well, Laura, especially if you can tolerate the protein drinks this early out.  Keep up the great job!

Girl- I can tolerate everything I've eaten. Little bits, but still...Plus I'm learning from all of you and I use Max Protein too now. :) Thanks to you!

soup slips through... I can do way more slider food than solid food.

dinner last night was some salad a bit of soup and about 4 bites of burger.

i'm nearly 8 months out....

but i can eat an entire cup of soup without batting an eye and not feel FULL
