OT - I need new glasses!

I officially am getting more blind every year lol.  I can no longer see the TV from my couch.  I want to go to a place that is not too expensive.  I usually go to an opthamolagist and regardless of my insurance I always end up spending over $200 for a pair of glasses.  I see all of these commercial for a buy one get one or two $99 or something like that.

Has anyone gone to one of these discount eye places and if so what was your experience and how was the service and ultimately the glasses.

Thanks for the input.

Nikki

Check BJs first before you go anywhere else.  They have awesome deals and right now glasses for $48!  Great selection of frames too.

First and formost you need a prescription for your glasses if you go to BJ's or anywhere else  Cohen's is have a special for $29 for an eye exam.  My insurance pays for our glasses and they recomend Cohen's I would go there.  You get a good exam and then ask for a prescription then go anywhere you like to get it filled.  Good luck.

Second-  My sight has gotten worse too.  Do you think it is from the surgery?

I dunno about Cohen's... never heard of them in this area.  And the closest BJ's is in Columbia, but I was thinking along the same lines! Costco or Sam's Club are both in Gaithersburg, Nikki.  And both have eye doctors for exams as well as very nice selection of nicely priced frames!  (My husband used them a couple of years ago before he changed jobs and insurance for vision coverage.) Of course... you need a membership though!?

If you're not a member or even if you are, compare prices advertised locallly like in our Gazette or a coupon mailer.  Just some suggestions, of course!

Let us know how it works out for you and you'll have to post a pic of you in your new glasses!

Thanks Mitzi I was thinking maybe places like Four Eyes or My Eye Doctor or something like that like that runs the specials.  I do have insurance for eye care. I do not have a Sams or Costco Membership however but I keep thinking I need one!

I will keep you all posted.

Thanks
Nikki

Nikki, if you can find somebody who has a Costco membership, they can take you. You just have to pay with a debit card. I helped a coworker get glasses at my Costco that way. Maybe this is a good tiem for you to plan a visit my way? ;-)

Nikki, we have used Sams and Costco both. We have had good luck with both places. My friend uses Target and has had good luck there as well. I have Sams and Costco memberships and if you find you can get glasses there you are more than welcome to use my memberships to get your glasses. I think that you would be able to use them if I went with you. I guess I should check first. Good luck.

Ok  I have no suggestions but I want to say something.

I am diabetic ( once a diabetic always a diabetic) and have had 3 eye exams in
three years:  First was right after RNY:  second was about 6 months later
My eyesight IMPROVED due to the daibetes being controlled!  Third was just
a month ago :  again vision had IMPROVED!  Please don't start spreading
rumors that eyesight gets worse due to WLS!

Like you, I always go to my own optometrist that I been seeing for years.  But my friends always go to America's Best.  She said she paid $140 for a drs visit and two pairs of glasses.  WHich is WAY better than what I pay!  I really think I might check them out next time around, but I'm a contact wearer

I only need glasses to see far (driving and TV) but I'm tired of paying freaking $200+ all the time.  I think I am going to check Americas Best and see what they offer. I have insurance that covers the exam and lenses and a discount on the frames which is what I am looking for and I'd love to get 2 because I will always lose them.

Thanks
Nikki
