Hi, I'm getting closer to VSG surgery - as of earlier this month, I'm now covered under insurance - WHOOOPPP!!!!

I need to find a local support group, however.

(or start one!)

Anyone know of one?

Tks,

Sheri

I was just approved for surgery and will be seeing the surgeon next week.  I am currently attending the support group for Holy Cross Hospital.

Yes, my dear friend Linda is correct..  (Hi Linda!  )

I also attend the Holy Cross Hospital Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) Informational (for pre-ops) and Support Group (for post-ops) in Silver Spring, MD.  Pre-ops will get to meet surgeons giving a seminar on the different WLS options, and post-ops give a few minutesof their stories and answer Q&A.  We meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month as an Informational Group and Support Group and post-ops also meet as Support Group the 4th Wednesday.  If you'd like to join our online support group it's
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HolycrossWLS/  you don't have to be a patient of Holy Cross to join the online or actual support group!

What would be great is to start our own get togethers though in Montgomery/Howard/PG as so far there seems to be several meet ups around Baltimore and Southern MD but nothing closer to home. I'd be willing to meet in Laurel or Columbia or anywhere in Montgomery Co for dinner and socialing occaisionally!  Anyone care to join me?

meeting up in Laurel/Columbia sounds good to me :) I live in the Howard County part of Laurel.

I'll bet you are sooo excited!

I believe the closest local support group to you is in Crofton.  Bayview itself has support groups as well.  You may want to look into that since you are having your surgery there.  Dr. S is the best!!

 Where in Crofton, please?

I'm signed up for Bayview - but it is hardly convenient - all the way thru B'more - horrible parking - can only do it during the day cuz of the kids, which means taking leave from work, paying for tunnel tolls and parking. Columbia would be soooo easy!!

And - you can't tell me there aren't enough bariatric patients in the area to support a group!

Thanks!

Yeah, I can see how Bayview would be inconvenient.  Crofton is pretty much right off rt. 50 between Bowie and Annapolis.  I mapquested it and it looks like it's about 30 miles from Columbia.  There used to be one in Glen Burnie but I haven't seen a notice for that one in quite a while.  You could always start one for your area!  You can certified through OH.

Good Luck,
Heather
