Gold's Gym (if you're thinking of joining)

I just wanted to tell everyone that if you're thinking of joining a gym, particularly Gold's Gym but this probably applies to most of them, NEVER settle for the first price they tell you.

Today I went in with a flyer I got in the mail for 9.99 a month with no contract and was told that in order to get that deal I had to pay a $188 initiation fee. I kept saying no and the guy lowered it like a used car salesman. I probably could have gotten it lower but when he got to $29 initiation plus 9.99 a month I was ready to just get it over with and join. Looking back I probably should have said I'd join if he'd waive the initiation completely.

This membership limits me to going 4 days a week (tues/thurs/sat/sun) which is really not a big deal in my mind. I think it's a good price and hope I use it enough to make it worthwhile. The good thing is that it's all inclusive and classes are offered every day for no extra charge.

Plus they have this cool thing called the Cardio Cinema room where it's completely dark and they show movies on a projector while you workout on treadmills and elipticals.

Anyone else have any experience with them good or bad?

Hi Ellen!
See I knew you were raised right! LOL  I belong to the MAC which are located in Timonium, downtown and a mini MAC in Hunt Valley. I had zero problems or issues when getting the membership. The REAL problem started the day after I signed, my only problem/issue is GOING TO THE MAC. Actually I have been pretty good, Each night before my scheduled gym days I tell myself, there is no way I am going tomorrow! Each morning I begrudgingly get ready and drive to the gym. I just thought by now I would be liking it even a little bit, not so much! How long does it take before you don't HATE it anymore??? A lot of people say they hate the gym, but I REALLY HATE THE GYM. It has nothing to do with the MAC, it's beautiful.  I Hate going! Maybe I am too OLD??
Ya think?? Be Good, Leslie:)

maybe it's not a good fit?
maybe it's not a good location?

one of the reasons I love my gym is location location location it's less than 2 miles from my house and it's on the way to and from work.

don't have to drive to the gym... it's THERE.....

i've read stuff that says the MOST critical part of going to the gym is the location.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. This one is a couple of miles from home and in the same shopping center with the Safeway I shop at a lot and my favorite BBQ place. Even though today is my first day on solid foods, I've been eating at the BBQ place about once a week cause I carry home some meat and sauce and puree it. So, I think going to this gym will be no problem for me

Plus, it was really nice and I enjoyed the atmosphere. What's the MAC by the way? Never heard of it.
