Need PCP Dr in Maryland

Hi, I live in Southern Maryland and need a Primary Care Dr who is proactive about their patients losing weight and actually HELPFUL.

I have been turned down for WLS by my insurance.  My company does not insure for WLS and I am told I can not appeal.  The last 2 PCP's I had, both told me to simply eat healthy and exercise. The former handed me a referral for a psychiatrist when I cried in her office over my inability to lose weight.

I am 35, have been obese all my life and have a current BMI over 60.  I am desperately looking for some direction and if anyone has insight or advice I am certainly willing to listen.  Also if anyone has a PCP who was proactive and encouraging about weight loss, please let me know.  Thank you.

Chel

Chel, I am sorry you have been treated so bad. I see a doctor in Waldof who I have seen for 27 years. He is Dr. Phillip Wistosky. He is very busy and he is an internist. He has a Physcians Asst names Jenniffer Knode and I have spoke to her about WLS and they have patients who have had WLS. I feel they are very supportive and think that if this will work than it is up to the patient. I am unsure what insurance you have but I am sure there are good supportive Doctors out there. You may have just gotten some foolish ones. I wish you luck and I am willing to help in any way I can.

Chel:

I am sorry you are going through this.  Maybe you can speak to a physician that you would like to perform your surgery and see if he or she can recommend a PCP.  For what it's worth, my PCP is in Laurel.  www.medpeds.net .  You may have better luck with the staff here.  I have been pleased with them and they are a progressive and very understanding practice.

Good Luck!
