Ok, so yesterday I had my 7 week post op with my surgeon. I was at 231.4 on the Drs scale but 227.7 at home that morning.  When I got home I checked it again and it was 228.4 (which makes sense after breakfast, lunch and all my water).  So our scales aren’t in sync… but I don’t go to his office every week so he can have his tally, I’ll have mine for my ticker here.  So that's 26 lbs lost post op - but 60 lbs including pre-op weight loss from a year ago.

Ok, maybe not impressive by others standards here... but since I can't exercise as most due to osteo-arthritis of both hips and compressed disks in back ( I have to use a walker  just to get around)   So, actually we're both pleased with my resutls so far!

My surgeon is very conservative and I've followed his dietary guidelines to the letter.  Just yesterday he added poultry, shrimp, cooked vegs and other low carbs to my existing eggs, fish/shellfish, soft cheese and tofu.

A week and half ago restarted aqua-therapy and joined a gym.  I just started working with a (hunky) trainer for cardio upper body workout! Tomorrow will be my 2nd session. Dr. Cantor was really pleased about that for me (the cardio, not the hunky trainer!)  So I'll be able to burn more and therefore lose more and with trainer help, avoid agravating hips and back.

Today was my first day back to work since surgery.  I've been really achy (my hips and back, not my VSG) and tired and weak after walking even short walks... but I made it through the day! Tomorrow I'll work from home and go to the gym for my nooner  with my trainer.... (hehehe) and then we're off for Good Friday.  So all in all... it was a good half week to start back!

Here's before and 7 weeks post op pics showing my total pre and post op 60 lbs in a year loss.  My husband, Dan also has lost 45 lbs, but he hasn't had WLS, just cutting back on carbs and beer. (if it were only that easy)

January 2008 at my hightest (known) weight of 287:

And taken last Sunday at a Dan's sisters for early Easter get-together:

You're looking and doing GREAT Mitzi.  Keep up the good work.

Do you think that you will be able to find exercise you can do?  Can you do seated exercise such as chair yoga or chair aerobics?

I ask because my hubby is very limited due to congenital bilateral club foot,  lymphadema, arthritis and a fused ankle. He is in constant pain.

Ticker is from Day of Surgery.. weight goal is personal preference as I've MET my doctor's goal

Thanks, Nessa and Nicole!

Yes, Nessa - I could do chair or water aerobics classes! Might have saved me some money too.  I'm currently doing my own aqua walking (4 laps forward, 2 laps backward 4 sidesteps... like a crab) and doing my hip therapy exercises I learned in aqua-therapy in the pool and the trainer is working me with weights, bands and boxing gloves for upper body cardio.  He really worked me today too... I forgot the names of the muscles... but my upper arm strength is shot.  He also worked on my back and side muscles with hand weights.

I'm sure a custom exercise program can also be designed for your hubby!  Or he could try a chair yoga or aerobics class.  Can he walk at all?  Because aqua aerobics classes are phenominal!  This gym doesn't offer them though so I'd have to take classes seperate from the gym. Of course, your husband should be cleared for any exercise by his Dr first!

Sending love & light and best wishes to him for pain relief and recovery!
