well just got back from my pcp and i have gallstones and "sludge" according to an ultrasound i had last week. i have to get a HIDA? scan now...

so i have a question. i know i will eventually have to get my gallbladder out, so what do i expect having out? changes in diet, restricitions, recovery time?

thanks everyone!

Not totally sure if it's different when you've had WLS, but I had my gallbladder taken out 8 years ago and as far as surgeries go, it was a piece of cake. I took a week off work, but could have gone back after 3 days. They told me to avoid high-fat foods for a week or 2.

I had my GB out in April 2006.   nothing much changed for me and sadly I hate to report the recovery was WORSE than when I had RNY in September.   Could be from my weight and health at that time who knows...

A HIDA scan will show how your GB is working  if it's below 35 they may want to just take the GB out.  I had two  the first one I was at 21 and did not know to request it out... the surgeon suggested I not have surgery yet.  By the time I had my second one... I was deathly ill and the scan was 7.  You can get as high as 100%  I had no stones but I had a nonfunctioning GB....

The only thing you have to do after GB surgery is go low fat...  which you proably already are doing...
