A series of awesome things

Hey all!

I just got back from my three month appt with Dr. Steele and the NUT.  Well today is Monday - my one scale day of the week and I got on the scale this morning and it said 244.8.  That breaks me over the 100 pounds lost catagory (if you include the 14 I lost the month before surgery and I do) to a total of 103.  While I am excited, it was not as mind blowing as the time at one month I realized how great it was to be off all diabetes meds.  about 50 more to go to goal

Dr. Steele was very pleased with me.  All the blood work was normal.  They talked about how I was probably going to reach goal before my RNY stopped working for me and would need to work with the NUT to bring that balance into play.  they loved my go-wear-fit reports and were going to start showing them to all new patients.

The NUT was not as thrilled with me.  Low and behold apparently I need to consume more calories (she'd like to see me between 800-1,000 with a long term goal of 1200 - 1500) and more complex carbs.  Why I certainly can do this, I have that "slippery slope" paranoia.  I know how quickly an extra 200 calories can become an extra 2,000 calories.  Don't ever want to go down that road again.

Oh and the greates moment of this weekend!  Everyone in the house had tons of homework this weekend (wife and kids)  I had nothing pressing.  I asked my wife what she needed done in the yard given how beatiful the weekend was.  The garden beds needed cleaning and mulching.  So, over the course of the weekend I cleaned all the beds on three sides of the house and put down 50 bags of mulch.  I would have never been able to do that a year ago.  I was exhausted by days end on Sunday but so thrilled that I was able to finish the job.  (And that's with an hour work out at the Y each morning.)

To quote someone around here, "I love my RNY."

Thanks Nicole.  WOULD LOVE to come out to help at your house but the Honey Dew list did not end at the garden beds.  Besides gas tank was on empty by late Sunday evening.

OMG Russel That is FANTASTIC!
You really have worked so hard, and it's paying off with huge results! I know that you loved the fact that you could do your yard work, without quitting or passing out! LOL I know what you are talking about the paranoia. It can be paralyzing, but it is something we eventually have to face. I am sure your Nut will work with you, but all you have to remember is one step at a time. You have already had wonderful success, and I know nothing will come between you and your control over the demons! Good Luck, Leslie

I was thrilled to be able to get that work done.  ALthough I must admit by Sunday afternoon some of the "gee isn't this great that I can do this" began to wear off and the "boy this is kicking my a#@" kicked in.

I stopped on the way home at the grocery store and bought some Arnold's deli thins and those Bagel Thins.  ALready I can hear the carbs calling me.  It's an interesting and scary and neccessary experiment I'm about to undertake.
