Post-Op Protein Problem

I am having a problem with protein. I am 8 days post-op and ever time I add protein to my food or water it makes me feel ill.  I've tried adding it to chicken broth, milk, and a wide range of other things. It is always the same!

Any helpful suggestions?!?!?!?!?!?!?

My surgeon didn't care how much protein I got that early out as long as I was getting in some.  I did 8oz a day of a protein shake - 2 oz at a time split up over 4 times a day.  You should also be careful with milk this early out - a lot of people become lactose intolerant after surgery.

Just make sure you are sipping and not gulping and take it slow.  You may also want to try the special K protien powder that you add to water like you add crystal light.  It helps me get an extra 5g of protein in here or there on light days.  And jello has protein in it.

you could be lactose intolerant now.   at 8 days out I'd worry more about hydration than anything.

what protein are you using?

I am using Unjury. I've tried mixing it with things other then milk. I can drink milk, eat yogurt and cottage cheese with no problem.

I am drinking lots of liquid and tomorrow I can start pureed!

OK good then it's probably the Unjury.... I'd try different proteins.

Walmart sells Body Fortress that's not bad...  and you can add syrups to it to doctor it up and make it yummy

see this  PROTEIN SHAKE RECIPES  for ideas of what to add to protein shakes

I recommend About Time protein.  It is de-lish!  You can find it at www.tryabouttime.com.  It is high quality protein and sooooo yummy!  I especially like the birthday cake flavor!  Add some Irish Cream SF syrup and it's fabulous!

Birthday Cake and Cinnamon Swirl...

One of my oddities after surgery is that I like Cinnamon - something I barely tolerated before surgery!
