LOW (I MEAN VERY LOW) IRON

Per my recent blood work, my iron levels are anemic, even with 2 presciption iron pills twice a day.  My surgeon and PCP are both recommending an iron infusion which I plan to do as soon as I get the written orders.  Anyone else have the transfusion?  What is to be expected?  My hope is that once I get the transfusion, I can get the iron levels up maintain it from that point on with my iron pills.

I've never had a transfusion, but I just wanted to wish you good luck!  Keep us posted.

are you taking your iron seperatley from your calcium?  do you take it with Vitamin C to aid in the absorption?   and do you take Ferrous or Carbynol Iron?

I take 45 mg elemental iron in the form of Carbynol Iron with 500 mg of Vit C every day but at least 2 hours away from my Calcium Citrate lozenges.

I've not had an infusion but I recall folks on the main board talking about it... I'd ask there.

I'll try the main board.  In addition to my chewable calcium, I take Ferrex Forte 150 mg (2x day).  It is a prescription iron pill containing Vitamins B & C.
