2 weeks Pre-Op Question

So I keep reading more and more and it seems like EVERYONE that is having or has had RNY did a liquid diet pre-op.  I asked my Nut about this weeks ago and she said Dr. Averbach doesn't always require it.  I am going to call him tomorrow to confirm, but I just wanted to see if anyone here DIDN'T have to do a pre-op liquid diet.

I have no problems doing it if I have to, but I just think I want to understand why I don't have to but so many people do...

THANKS
Stephanie

We did not have a liquid pre-op diet with Dr. Von Rueden.

I know TOM (Crash220) who was with Dr. A did not have one either.  but AmusedOne (Angie) did.

Thanks for the quick response that makes me feel much better.  I think I am still going to call tomorrow just to make sure.  I am at the point that I do not want to do anything that could delay or cancel my surgery.

I only had a one day pre op diet with Dr Schweitzer.

Dr Averbach did my surgery and he doesn't require it. It's only used to shrink the liver, so it's easier for the Drs to operate, so I guess Dr Averbach is not bothered by a fatty liver. You're in great hands with Dr Averbach. Love him to death . Good luck and look forward to seeing you on the losers bench :)

Hi Steph.............wow your getting close. How exciting for you. (((Hugs))) I know that Doctors do them based on your liver honey. If your liver is enlarged and they feel they will not be able to manipulate around it during the RNY they will try to shrink it by placing you on a liquid diet for 10-14 days prior to surgery. If they feel your liver is fine they may not ask you to follow a liquid diet. I had to have a semi liquid one.........I could eat one meal a day and had to have shakes for the other two prior to surgery. I was glad to do it just to make sure my liver was small enough to get around. lol (((Hugs)))

I didn't have to do a pre-op liquid diet with Dr. Roe.

I am a Dr. A patient as well and he did not require a liquid pre-op.  If, however, Dr. Averbach feels that your liver is fatty and enlarged, you are required to do a liquid diet.  Obviously, he does not feel that you have an enlarged liver; therefore, no preop is required.

I had Dr. McKenna - he required no special diet prior to surgery.  However, I did do a clear liquid diet the day before for myself, so I wouldn't have to go potty on the day of surgery.
