I know that I have asked a lot of questions but I am curious about something.  I have decided to use cobra for health coverage through my employer.  Now if I were to choose another company for health insurance is there one out there that will cover bariatric surgery?   Not sure if new insurance through employer will have wls coverage.

Lori -

It's NOT a dumb question, but it's a difficult one to answer.  I personally think your best bet is to find out what insurance plans your employer offers and call each one individually.  I think that's the only way to get the correct answer.

It is all employer dependent. Employers negotiate with the insurance companies for their plan and decide at a corporate level to include / exclude things like WLS. Most major insurance companies now offer some kind of coverage with conditions (BMI, diet, etc).

Lori - do you mean if you do NOT choose Cobra and look for insurance independently?  I'm not sure who covers WLS or not, I've never looked into it.

good luck!

No question is a dumb question!!  I do have no clue, but I am betting if you ask on the insurance forum someone there can guide you better than we can here...

Good Luck!!
