Hello out there!  I will be having my surgery sometime in July @JH and as an information junkie want to know everything about the place. Does it provide private rooms? is it comfortable or institutional? hows the staff? cable available? internet?  thanks everyone!

Hi there!

I had my surgery at Bayview 3 weeks ago.  Yes, bariatric patients have private rooms!  It was quite comfortable, plenty of room for me and my DH while he stayed with me. Each room has the hospital bed of course, private bathroom and a recliner chair.  There is a TV and I do believe it had cable?  I was too drugged to remember much. lol.  Not sure about internet, I used my cell.

The staff was quite nice.  I loved the nurses that checked me in and the ones attending to me post op were really great too, especially Nancy if you're fortunate enough to get her.

The only thing I didn't overly care for was the slow checkout. once the doctor released me, I was still there for several more hours waiting for someone to officially discharge me - with instructions, meds, etc.  In the meantime, I'm sure there were people waiting in recovery for my room.  So that said, sometimes getting from recovery to your room can be a bit of a wait.

Hope this helps some.

Hello.
I also had surgery at Bayview....June 2009. I found Bayview to be a very nice hospital.....I live on the Eastern Shore so it was my first time over there for a hospital stay.
The room was private that I had, my husband stayed with me the whole time. I can not really talk about the bariatric unit as I was only in a room there for a few hours then I was moved to ICU. ICU was a different story, my husband really didnt have room to stay, so he slept in our truck & spent the day with me. However, with that said, it was very comfortable, and the people were very nice.
There was Wifi, and cable however, I didnt get to use either one.
As Angie said, the people at check in and check out were very nice as well. I didnt spend much time with either process. Again, I was discharged from ICU so my experience was different than the regular bariatric rooms......
I wish you all the best!

I started my process at Hopkins and after they lost my labs and tests results I fired them and went to Greater Baltimore
You wont be watching much TV.  The morph drip will make sure of that
Good luck

Hi, I had my surgery Nov 2009 at JHB and they were wonderful to me. I loved the staff and the room. I felt very comfortable with everything. I was so nervous the morning of surgery but the team I had working with me made me feel alot better. I had a tv with cable channels. No internet that i know of. I didnt bring a lap top so i am not sure. The meds to make you feel so tired and out of it so you do sleep alot or walk the halls when you arent sleeping. My experience was great there. Good luck with everything!!!
