Hair Loss

I'm sure this topic has been touched on many many times, but does everyone go through hair loss?  I have really long, really thick hair, and it's coming out in handfuls and it's really kinda scary.  I'm getting in my protein and fluids and vits, so is just something that happens? I know we're all different but can anyone share their hair loss story if that happened to them?  I knew it was a possibility, but I didn't realize how annoying and scary it could have been.....

Thanks all!

I can't share, as I haven't experienced any yet.  I know I've asked about it to some on here and a few people have tried Biotin.

Mine started when I was about 4 months out, and continued for around 6 months.  Luckily I had thick hair to begin with, so it wasn't as noticable as others, but it was definitely annoying.  I had long hair and ended up getting it cut really short...then it wasn't bad at all.  Mine did grow back, and my hair is back to it's old self...but I kept the short 'do...kind of a new me.

I was told that if you keep your protein up and take Biotin, it would help.  My hair is thin to begin with and very fine.  I started taking Biotin just to be safe and I try to make sure my protein requirement is met.  I'm still supplementing with two protein shakes a day.  Good luck and I hope it stops soon.

Thanks everyone!  I was taking biotin prior to surgery, but I guess I better start it again. =o)  I wanna get my hair cut soon, but the couple feet of snow we've had kinda puts a damper on those plans. LOL

Debbie, you supplement two shakes a day, is that in place of meals or in addition to meals?  I'm not a huge fan of shakes and I have been trying to get all my protein in w/food, milk, some muscle milk and/or protein bars...  I think I'm going to have to go back to adding at least a shake a day.  My nutritionist wants me to get in 133g of protein a day, it's really hard to do.

Hey again,

I use a protein shake for breakfast or lunch, then another one as an evening snack.  I would never meet my protein requirement with food alone at this point.  Wow 133 grams of protein seems like so much.

I use Max Protein and add sugar free Da Vinci syrups and love protein shakes now.  I actually look forward to them.  Maybe you need to find a protein shake that you like or one that agrees with you.

Hey Debbie - where do you buy your Max Protein? Is it in the big blue tub?

Laura,

Yes, it's in the big blue tub.  I get mine from GNC on York Road in Towson.  Not a lot of GNCs carry it, so I stock up.  If you buy 2, you get 1 free at this GNC.  I use the chocolate and mix it with Da Vinci syrups.  It's not real chocolately, but really delish, and mixes nicely with other flavors.

I want to sample it as I have heard it's one of the best and least funky. How much is each tub? Thanks for the info!

Laura,

It's pricey, but worth it for me since I was unable to tolerate the other proteins I tried.  If you PM me your address, I'll send you a few tablespoons so you can try a few drinks.  It's really good.  I think it's around $49 for the 2 lb and $69 for the 5 lb.  I got three 5 lb containers for $119.  I'm already finished one and just starting on my second.  I mix the SF Da Vinci syrups with it, and it's just so good.  I'll mix the English toffee with it, or add Chocolate syrup and Coconut syrup to it to make like a "Mounds-type" drink, and I even add the Peppermint Paddy to it too.  Although it's chocolate flavored, it's not a strong chocolate; it's very smooth.  I use a Magic Bullet to mix mine.  Couldn't live without that MB - lol
