Got a call from pcp the other day on blood work.  Told me i had a vitamin defeciency and prescribed 50000 units of vitamin D . Does anyone know about this sorta thing.  Could this be why I get cravings for milk?

I found some drops that I put in my daily protein shakes to give me some extra Vit D. A little goes a long way with this stuff and I figured the liquid form of the drops is easier to absorb. The lack of sunshine does not help either as that is another source of Vit D.

I don't remember what my last Vit D reading was, but I know I was within the acceptable range.

Good luck getting it back up!

Lori, I had a V-D level of 13 %. My doc was not happy at all. I had the prescription and then was told if it does not come from Chollecalicferol that it is not absorbed by the body. They suggested I go to Trader Joe's and get their brand that is made with the "C" kind. It is absorbed better that the Erefrocol. I hope I spelled it right. I have been taking it for 9 months and the level is much better. Good luck low V-D can cause many health problems.

brian ususally the prescriptions are not the right stuff for us

YOU Need DRY D3.  vitalady sells 50,000 IU capsules that are not expensive.

Yes I also heard that when you are overweight that the body cells just suck out our V-D. I saw this on a TV show and a doctor was talking about what goes on within the body when you are overweight.

Just echoing some of the comments others have made: The presciption D is vitamin D2, which is fine pre-op, but not well absorbed post op.  Post op, you will want to use dry vitamin D3 (NOT a liquid or a gelcap, which require more stomach acid than we have in order to be absorbed).  The Vitalady ones that Nessa mentioned are perfect for WLS post ops.  Here is a link:
