I had gastric bypass 2 days ago and have been going through a what the hell have i done to myself stage.  I am actually suprised how little abdominal pain I have had but have a ton of nausea and chest/shoulder pain.  And my sore throat is uggghhh.  Everyone keeps telling me this is normal and it will all be worth it.  Is this all normal and is it normal to have these feelings?

it's very normal to feel the way you do.

call the doctor and ask him for something for the nausea and know it does get better.

It's very normal.  Maybe you should be taking something to help settle the nausea.  Give yourself a chance to heal.   You'll soon be feeling wonderful.  Hugs for a speedy recovery.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Yes, everything you're feeling is absolutely normal - the emotions, the pain, the nausea.

You should call your doctor about the nausea - they can call something in for you.  Your throat is probably sore from being intubated - s/f popsicles will help with that, as well as giving you some much needed fluid.  The shoulder/chest pain is probably a combination of gas and what they told me is "referred pain" from the anesthesia/gas used during surgery.  That should go away eventually, and walking will help with the gas.

It DOES get better - promise!  Hang in there!

Hugs,

Tia

Oh my... I went through it, too.  I will say one thing... after being a year out... this was the BEST thing I have ever done for myself and I know you will see that too.  I hope you're feeling better soon!

SO NORMAL!!!

I am 11 weeks post-op.  I experienced nausea for the first 3+ weeks along with chest & shoulder pain.  At times I felt like I had a lump in my throat.  Part of this is caused by your struggle with trying to get in all of the needed fluids and protein drinks.
Take a deep breath and do not panic.  You are experiencing everything I did including the buyers remorse for the first month.  I could not conceive of ever feeling normal again - but you will.  The throat and esophagus will remain swelled up for the first four weeks.  After the swelling goes down you will feel 100% better.  Please PM me if you want someone to talk to.
Congratulations and try to relax and just take one day at a time.   Pam

Mandy is that you girl!! You are going to do great! Chest and shoulder pain is usually from the gas they use so try to walk a lot and if they didnt give it to you already get something for nausea called you have Dr Fullums number and he can call the pharmacy. I can send my hubby to get it in his big truck if you need anything before the snow lets up. It will be SO worth it very soon you will start seeing results and it will make you happy!  "Holla" if you need anything.
